SOURCE: Volume goes up on its own and stays up.
Aren you sure that the volume up button is not stuck in . It should feel just like the rest of them A little click? It could still be shorted,or the capacitor across the switch could be defective. If all this seems good then the eeprom, or the microprocessor,or the line or trace going to the volum button could be shorted. This is not a repair you should attempt unless your a tech. Now the button thong can be looked at after the set is unpluged and the back is off, gently slide out the chassis toward the rear of the set just a little and slide it back to see if the button is released. if that dosent help then you will need to take the set to The repair center. Good Luck

The volume button is stuck or defective. You can try massaging it around or spraying some contact cleaner in there but it's probably not worth the trouble since it's still under warranty and HP will replace it for you. Call 1-800-HP-INVENT and let them know what is going on and they'll take care of it for you.
They'll ship a replacement to you along with a return label to send yours back to them prepaid. You'll probably have it by the end of the week.
The OSD lockout won't help you in the meantime, the volume display won't come up but you'll get an OSD lockout nag instead.
Good luck, if you have any trouble filing a claim, let me know. We're an HP warranty center and can handle it for you as long as you get permission from Fixya first.(assuming you're in the US)
btw, this unit has a 3 year warranty and has been out only about 2.5 years so it's 100% that's it is still covered. Shouldn't be any issues regarding proof of purchase, etc.

SOURCE: Toshiba (Model : 36A43) - volume goes down automatically
I am having same problem on 32 inch same problem. After playing with board with no results,I tried front buttons and found that if I held the power button in ever so slighItly as not to turn it off, it fixed problem which is the micro on/off switch, I removed the switch and used the remote and everything is back to normal, I am about to insall a used micro switch after I finish typing this but I am sure this will clear up volume problen and menu going crazy problem if not I will just leave micro switch out and use the remote, and I will get back to this board only if that micro switch still causes the problem, so if I don't post in next hour the problem is fixed and I'm more than glad to help.
SOURCE: when i turn the tv. on, the volume line appears
It sounds like one of the volume down buttons is stuck in the activate position. The same as if you were holding the down volume button continuously. It could be either the volume down button on the TV or the remote. I would try remove the batteries of the remote then adjust the volume by the TV buttons.
If the volume doesn't go back down then the remote is the problem. In order to fix the remote you may need to take it apart. This is normally easy to do just locate any screws that may be holding the remote together. If you don't see any screws then you will need to pry the two sections apart. Separate the circuit board and rubber buttons and clean them both with some rubbing alcohol and reassemble it. If it still has the volume issue you may need to replace it.
If the problem persists with the remote deactivated then it's the volume button located on the TV. That is a little more difficult. You can try wiggling the button or some canned air (used to clean computer keyboards) to blow it clean. However it may need to be disassembled to gain access to the switches for proper cleaning.
Hope this helps.
