Question about Yamaha DV-S5950 DVD Player

1 Answer

Pink display I have the Yamaha DV-S5950 and the HDMI cables are plugged in and everything looks right but the picture on my Samsung LCD TV is coming in with a pink hue to it all the time. The picture is fine when using regular, non-digital cords (not using HDMI cords), but it is not the best quality. I have swapped HDMI cords with the cable box and it is not the cords, so what am I doing wrong with the DVD player. Could there be something wrong with the DVD player itself or is it me? Thanks

Having  the same issue.  My Samsung LNt4065f is displaying the HDMI input in a pink or magenta color when using Yamaha's DV-S5950.  All other components looks ok however the up-convert HDMI is showing the picture in pink.

Count me in on having the same issue. Component cables look fine, but the HDMI looks awful and has the pink hue.

We just bought a new Samsung HL61A750 DLP TV today and are experiencing the exact same problem. We connected our Yamaha DV-S5950 via HDMI-to-HDMI cable to the TV, but the playback image on the TV is an overall pink or magenta color PLUS we have no audio either. I checked all of the TV's HDMI ports by connecting an Xbox 360, and everything was fine, so it's not the TV or the HDMI cable. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I have recently purchased a Samsung LCD TV and plugged a DV-S5950 into it with a philips HDMI cable. I get an image but the colour is all pink. I have tried changing resolution on the DV-S5950 and the TV will recognise a change in resolution however the display is still pink. Seems like others have been experiencing the same problem. Has anyone been able to characterise/resolve? I am currently pointing the finger at the DVD player.

It seems the DV-S5950 has an incompatability with HDMI through Samsung TV's.

I work for an electronics store in Australia, and had same problem when running this DVD player on my Samsung KA40A650.

I tried it on my brothers LA40M51 and the same thing happened. Tried it at work on the A650 display model and same thing again. Then I tried it on the LG LCD that was next to it, and no problems. Also tried the DV-S5950 display model at work and it did the same thing.

It's not a general Yamaha issue, as we bought a new (higher model) Yamaha DVD player and it worked perfectly fine. I also tested the cables, and it wasn't them either.

It seems that that specific model of DVD player from yamaha just doesn't like the HDMI inputs on Samsung TVs...

Plug your ps3 to the tv with a HDMI cable. go to Setting > Display setup on your ps3> Look for output/connection type. Select HDMI cable> Select the highest resolution your tv has 1080p or 720p. There you get the best picture for playing your ps3 gaming.

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.

Had to download the manual for this one since i didn't work with that particular model yet, but should be able to help anyway. Ok so on the back of the Yamaha unit you have a total of 5 HDMI plugs. The first on the left is the receiver's output which is supposed to go to the Pioneer flat screen in the Input HDMI plug. The 4 other HDMI plugs on the yamaha receiver are the 4 inputs, so plug in the Blue Ray reader into the second HDMI plug from the left which reads (BD/DVD) HDMI1. Now everything is plugged in the right way, so if you already did plug it all up like that, you were OK so far. All that is left now is to first of all put the Pioneer flat screen on the right input (You can do that with the remote of the TV, or if i'm not mistaken, there is an input selector on the back of your Pioneer flat screen TV). When that is done you just need to put the receiver to the right input also, to do so, either with the remote again, or on the front of the yamaha receiver unit. In both case, the button you need is the Input button, press it untill the receiver says HDMI 1 on the LCD display. And now you're done, all you need to do is to turn on the Blue Ray, put a movie in and enjoy.:) If it does not work, either the receiver or the flat screen are defective and should be returned for waranty.

The Yamaha RX-V463 AV does not playsound from the blue ray player

"I am also having difficulties in try to display the yamaha set up menu on the tv."
According to the manual the display menu for TV will not work with HDMI hook up.
I also have a Panasonic HD TV and can't get TV sound through my Yamaha AVR on "TV Sound" mode.  Trying to use HDMI cable for this also.  Do I need a digital optical cable or do I not have something set right?

Compatibility with Samsung LCD Display

It sounds like the HDMI port on the back of your Marantz is damaged. if you know for sure that the HDMI port works on another tv still you might just use component connection because the visible difference between component and HDMI is not very recognizable.

Hdmi settings?

Hey Kris, this might all be about different 1080 settings. Maybe Your consoles work on 1080i and the TV is 1080p.
It more sounds like your receiver has a faulty HDMI jumper, which you wont be able to fix. Here`s what i would do:
If your lcd has two HDMI inputs, use on for each the receiver and the other for the ps3...
2-For how important is to rather connect the ps3 via HDMI, for picture quality. then simply get an HDMI splitter, yes... YOull have to go and switch from receiver to ps3 whenever you want to play BUT it really sims your receiver is not going to cut it.

The pink you see is an incorrect "GAMMA" signal thats only induced by a malfunctioning software or hardware.

Is your receiver from a cable company? Try to get it replaced.

I would start there and if it wont make a difference, go with the splitter. YOu might get one at walmart, Radio Shack or ebay.

Hope it works and please feedback with results.

Good luck!!!
