I have installed CD, no problems. It seems to recognise my computer. But when I attempt to take a 'snapshot'/'copy' of a a slide that I insert into the scanner I only get a blank .jpeg. The slide image doesn't even show in the 'live' image scroll. I've checked the manual and my computer seems to comply with everything other than the XP/Vista issue. Any ideas for a workaround? Or is Windows 10 no good?
The device drivers that Windows 10 needs are significantly different than drivers for Vista or XP. If your scanner is old, the company likely will not support Windows 10. One thing you could try is to set up a virtual machine using the free Oracle VM Virtualbox or whatever virtual machine program you prefer. Then you could install the Vista or XP operating system on that virtual machine and run your scanner from there.
Check manufacturers website for updated drivers for windows 10. Also try to run your old software in compatibility mode
SOURCE: Hard drive driver problem
Hi,
It is possible that your hard drive is a SATA and therefore not readily readable by 98, XP but surprised not even by Vista. In any case, since you would still prefer to run XP (due to other software compatibility issues), pls press F6 when prompted by the XP installer. Additionally, you would need to have ready in a floppy the appropriate SATA drivers for your motherboard. They maybe downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's website or possibly in the installer/driver CD that came with the PC.
Other than the above, it is also possible that you may have some issues with the availability of XP drivers for the other devices for that computer specially if it is branded.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Just found the company that actually makes "Stratford Labs" scanners. Called them very helpful, still sending this one back. They actually answer the phone when you call, that's a plus.
1-847-550-9998 Affillated is the name of the company.
Stratford Labs GFP-001.

Well, I cannot help you with a disk, but I can offer this insight:
Seems this scanner only works with USB2 ports, and if you only have USB1 ports, you will not have any luck.
Additionally, while I cannot help you with drivers, I have found others who say that Windows XP (and it is assumed Vista) does not need drivers to operate this scanner.
Simply go to the Control Panel, (after it's plugged in to a USB2) and click on Scanners and Cameras. The operating system will guide you through a wizard which will allow you to scan images into your computer.
Once there, however, you are sort of on your own to choose the software you want to edit those images.
good luck

SOURCE: Canoscan Lide 30 compatibility with Windows 7.
There are no official drivers for CanoScan Lide 30 for Windows XP, so your problem is obvious. I suggest you sending an e-mail at Canon including details about your scanner (date purchased, serial number in text form or scanned) asking them to develop driver set as this model is very trade and at shops since 2006 or 2007.
In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.
Thanks and regards
