I have never used anything but the software that came with the Zen to upload the music to the Zen. There is also new firmware out for the Zen that you could try to use.
Ever since vista dropped alot of support files for simple thing like Creative's older model Mp3 Players, try going to creatives website, and look in the support section for a driver update for VIsta.
you should not have had to install anything for the Zen to work on Vista. If you have installed any Creative software, remove it. Reboot, plug your player in, open Device Manager, and remove the device that shows up representing your player (completely uninstall it). Reboot again, and plug in your player. It should be recognized now.
If that still doesn't work, then boot your player into Recovery Mode, and perform both a Disk Cleanup and a Reformat. Reboot the player and try plugging it in again.
if it still doesn't try another computer and upload the latest firmware to it and then try it on your pc after firmware is loaded
http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ try downloading the MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.
Try to add your music a bit at a time instead of your whole library at once. That will freeze it. You can also try sync with Window's Media Player, which works a lot better than the Creative software.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?
