Question about Compaq Presario 5000 PC Desktop

My printer will not print.

I relocated my computer to a new room. Now it won't print. I don't know if its connected right. I just put in a color ink cartridge. It won't print. When I try to print, I get this message " printer not connected." Do I have to put in a black ink cartridge as well. Or is it just connected wrong?

Is there a cable physically connecting the printer to the computer? If so, do you see the printer in Printers and Faxes?

How do I print in color from Dell vostro 220 to HP Deskjet 6940 printer


1. Check if the printer has colored ink.
2. Check the settings. Make sure that the colored ink is activated.
3. Update the driver for your printer. Scan your computer with RadarSync.

Select the ink cartridge specific to your printer. Canon inks are versatile, so your selection may be as simple as choosing between black, color or a multi-pack with black and color cartridges.

Turn on your Canon printer. The switch is generally located on the top right hand side of the printer. Open the printer's lid.

Wait a moment. The cartridge carrier will automatically disengage.

Put your hand behind the existing ink cartridge and pull the cartridge towards you until it pops out. Dispose of or recycle the used cartridge.

Carefully pull the tape off the new cartridge.

Position the new cartridge into the cartridge carrier. Make sure it is facing the correct position.

Press the cartridge carrier gently until it clicks into place. Some cartridges have indicators to demonstrate that they are properly positioned.

Close the printer's lid. Print a test page to ensure everything is working properly.

Only prints in yellow color

The printer must be able print all colors in order to execute the alignment. Part of the alignment process involves scanning printed colored (all colors including yellow) bars. See the web page below for a sample of the printout. I suggest that you clean the carriage and cartridge electrical contacts with a cotton swab moistened with water. If you still fail to get yellow, test the cartridge in another printer. ping me for the make of printer, anyways if it an HP series refer to the website below

The solution center shows a question mark on both ink cartrages, and says no comutaion with the printer.

Take the cartridges off and check the connections. Make sure that there is no dust or debris on the contacts. Also take some Alcohol on a swab and clean both areas with it. I would recommend a clean swab for each contact so you do not cross contaminate the leads. When you put the cartridges back in make sure that they seat all the way. I know that there are some cases where the cartrages look like they are seated properly but not.

I cannot locate HP Solution Center on my computer in order to ask a question about why my ink jet is not lasting very long.

Hi Carolyn,

The HP Solution Center is a program on your computer that provides a single place where you can control your printer and also receive help on common problems. As part of your HP printer's installation, the Solution Center should have an icon on your desktop which looks like a blue ball with "HP" in white letters inside.

If you do not have one, then you can create one. Using Windows Explorer (Windows Key > E), find the following file on your computer.

C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqdirec.exe"

Then right-click on it and select "Send To: Desktop". You should now have an icon on your desktop for the HP Solution Center.

For why your ink is not lasting very long, this could be many things. But one way you can reduce your ink consumption is by making sure that your are printing in DRAFT mode and BLACK&WHITE for your normal every day printing. You should only use COLOR and NORMAL/BEST selections when printing photos or professional documents.

In addition to these printer settings, please realize that the ink cartridges that were shipped with your printer usually have a low volume of ink so that you have to purchase new ones. When buying new ones, try to find cartridges that advertise "large capacity" because they have more ink and are a better value.

The printer won,t print my picture.

If the printer prints didnt print anything at all and you know that you are having ink in it and there is no fault somewhere then go to your printer setup and put your printer to default printer then it start working ok

I am trying to use a Z705 color jetprinter, but cannot get it to print from the pc. I can print from notepad (not using the print file from the tool bar but from the notepad file. I have tried everything....

May be you are not installed well the software driver of the printer. First check the test page of the printer.

Computer not in color printing mode

When you go to print, go to properties for the printer you would like to print. Once there find the tab that says color and make sure gray scale is checked off. It could depend though where that setting is at by printer. Please provide what printer you have. Just the brand no product number or anything only if what i gave at first does not help.
