We have the same problem. E3 flashes and there is no paper jam. Returned printer to store we were told it is an issue with the roller and would cost $150 plus shipping. We have only printed 2 pages from this machine since we purchased it as a bundled package.

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2007

Same to me....I've tried to re adjust the roller and tried a single paper or a bundle of paper but it doesn't work.....thinking about take it back to the shop and claim my warranty.....

  • Suz13 Jan 24, 2008

I have the same problem.....I have only used this printer (1 month old) a couple of times and the E3 error message came up and I have already cleared the jam. It won't print or even pull the paper. I'm going to try to take it back.

i had the same issue, now i only can print only 1 paper at one time.I've already sent for services but the error still prompt.I'ts become more badly after services.

  • Anonymous Mar 18, 2008

This printer was a big, noisy pile of junk before it stopped working. It was "free" at Office Depot w/ a Toshiba laptop. It has the same E, 3 error code and simply won't work at all. After seeing the others with the same problem, I guess I'll just buy a HP printer as I should have done to begin with.

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2008

My printer keeps displaying E3 and it keeps telling me that there's a paperjam and there isn't. So i'm unable to use my printer I've triede everything.

Ok, my machine was also showing E3, and would NOT go away. My solution: turn the machine off, feed a piece of thick cardstock into the paper feed.Turn the machine on, let the machine take the paper almost all the way in, then pull it back all the way out against the feed. My E3 disappeared and has not yet returned!! Hope this helps David

I was having this problem and was getting incredibly frustrated. I saw someone comment that it could be a small piece of paper that has been lodged into the rollers. So I got a flashlight and began digging. There ended up being one of my husbands military coins lodged into it..how it got there i have no idea. Just be sure to check for anything like that before taking it back to the store. best of luck

Don't know if it's the same problem i had but its maybe worth a try. My paper went in a little, the wheels were turning but it didn't take the rest of the paper or print.
Yesterday someone replied to my problem, i tried it this morning and its fixed 1st time.
Solution:- Use a piece of thin card, a magazine cover is what i used, make sure its A4 size then try to print something, as the paper starts moving PUSH it through! and hey presto it worked for me, everything printing fine now

1st step, open printer cover and check to make sure no paper or foreign object is obstructing the paper feeder. 2nd step, Open printer maintenance, and execute roller cleaning. Solved My prob.

Canon Pixma MP160 shows errors E3 and won't print

Hi there,

Error E3 : Check if the paper has jammed in the machine, reload the paper in the machine correctly and then press [Black] or [Color].

Paper Jams :
Cause : Paper jams in the paper output slot/ Auto Sheet Feeder.
Landscape Credit Card sized paper jams inside the machine.

Action : Remove the paper according to the following procedure.
1) Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Auto Sheet Feeder or from the paper output slot, whichever is easier.
* If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the machine, open the Scanning Unit and remove it. Be careful not to touch the components inside the machine at this time. After removing the paper, close the Scanning Unit, turn the machine OFF and turn it back ON.
* If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the machine OFF and turn it back ON. The paper will eject automatically.

2) Reload the paper into the machine and press [Black] or [Color].
* If you have turned OFF the machine in step , you will need to retry printing, because this operation cancels any print jobs in progress.

If you cannot remove the paper or the paper tears inside the machine, or if the paper jam error continues after removing the paper, contact a Canon service representative.
Important : You cannot load Credit Card sized paper in the landscape orientation.

Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

Flashing E3 error code for a paper jam

I had the same problem with my mp 160, Error message was blinking. I tried to print but the printer would take 1/10 of the whole page and stop, even though rollers were moving. My solution for this was to take a piece of thin cardbord(I used a magazine cover), cut it in a size of A4, put it in printer, printed it and when the rollers start moving I forcebly pushed the cardboard through. Now it seems to work fine. Hope it does for you.

Error E3 on Pixma MP160

Looks like there is something stuck in the insides of the printer preventing it from running to one side. A small paper clip, Ball pin etc., can cause this. You might have to take it apart and look for it. I had fixed a similar problem recently and the stuck object is "HAIR BALL!"
