-   I have a Gateway T-6815 and the CD drive just stopped working one day as well. It doesn't show up under the Computer folder, it doesn't show up under the Device Manager, and I even went into the BIOS and it's not showing up under there either.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on??? I'm running Vista Home Basic.

-   My DVD drive on my gateway notebook worked just fine until last week. I noticed the problem started right after windows installed some updates. Now, when I put a DVD in I can feel it spinning for a few seconds. Then it stops and nothing else happens. It's as if the computer doesn't even notice a DVD is in the drive. When I open "My computer" the DVD drive is shown as empty. When I try to open it it tells me to "please insert disk". I checked my drivers and they are working properly. I tried to update the drivers and they are up to date. One thing I did notice though is that my "Mass Storage Device" driver is now missing. It wasn't missing before I installed the windows update though. I can't find the driver for this "Mass Storage Controller". It's listed under "Other" in the device manager. Maybe the Mass storage controller driver is the problem but I can't find that driver. -   magicjaxon

I have a Asus Laptop with Windows Vista, it was working fine last wk, in the device manager it say this:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
It sounds like its reading but it don't show up that a cd is present in windows media player or anything.

What can i do to try fix this???
