Need an expert on Grunaire Mini-split systems. Need troubleshooting guidance - compressor will not run -only fan comes on. Get a ''P8'' error. I thought it was due to low refrigerant. I had to install 35 foot line set. Called A/C repairman - he came out and could not add refrigerant - said compressor will not come on and then took some readings on inside circuit board. Says the circuit board is bad?, but could not tell which one. Also tried in heat mode - doesnt work. Brand new out of box Grunaire system- could this be possible? With these systems does the compressor have to run to add refrigerant? He never attached a vacuum pump - is that critical? I was not confident in his diagnosis. Any help? Is there an exact measurement to take to verify a bad circuit board?

If you are low on refrigerant, and if you have a low pressure switch, it will not allow the compressor to come on in heat or cool, until you put a jumper across the low pressure switch or add enough refrigerant to get the pressure up to close the switch. You can only add refrigerant to a system if the bottle pressure is higher than the unit pressure without the compressor running.
Normally a technician will hook his gages up if suspects the unit is low on charge or he will push the contacts closed on the contactor and feel the suction line to see if it's cold.

Grunaire mini split, why does the condenser fan run constantly when the indoor units are turned off? And the compressor is not running!!

It shouldn't do that, however, if there is wind, the fans are so well balanced and the bearings in the fan are so good that wind will make the fan spin. That gives the impression that the fan is 'running'. Try turning off the breaker or pulling the disconnect link outside for at least 2 hours. That will reset all the electronics and relays.

Compressor shutting down

FC IS FREON CHARGE, WHAT YOU ARE GETTING IS A HIGH PRESURE CUT OFF  FAILURE. THE LABEL PRESURE IS TEST PRESURE. THE RUN PRESURE ON LOW SIDE IN AC MODE IS ABOUT 65 AT 75 T0 80 DEGREES INSIDE AND ABOUT 200-300 HIGH SIDE AT 75 -85 OUTSIDE TEMP. IN HEAT THE LARGE COPPER LINE BECOMES HIGH SIDE HOT WHEN YOU FEEL IT. IF YOUR FREON IS LOW WILL WILL ALSO GET SHUTDOWN. YOU WILL NEED SET OF FREON GAGES AND CONTACT ME BACK
