Fade from light to dark screen

Television picture suddenly fades / flickers from light to a darker screen...any thoughts as to what the problem might be. The TV is 5 years old and is on for about 2 hours per day. Is it worth repairing?

SOURCE: TV Won't Turn On

I purchased the TV using AMX card 18 month ago. They have an extended 1 year warranty on top of manufactory's. I just have this set repaired: replaced SD board, total charge is $550. I already file a claim and hope to get reimbursed soon.

If you open the back, look at the can shaped items. If any of them have the tops bulged out, they need to be replaced. This should solve your picture problem, unless there is something else wrong. What is happening,is they are heating up,and the picture goes out.I bet the longer you have the TV off,the longer it stays on?Hope this helps.Thank You very much! The most likely issue is that the Power Supply has burnt out, you were able to let it cool at get it to work for a while, but perhaps part of the board has melted enough to cause a short. Repairs will cost approx. $300-500.

Half of my 47" LCD Phillips screen fades from normal to dark. Any thoughts?

If it\'s a backlight issue one section will be dim and will fade darker or lighter to the other section. It is not a hard on/off line. So if it does fade to dark on one side I would suspect either a faulty backlight bulb (non-replaceable) or a failing backlight inverter (can be replaced.)

My screen keeps getting darker

This is probably the back light going out. They have tube lights in them and they do fade. You might notice the picture getting yellow too. This is not something that you can repair yourself unless you know electronics.

If you have tried using different input devices, looked for loose contacts

I would check for dust particles before I attempted any type of repair on the unit.

Dust particles will appear as dark spots that are larger than the size of an individual pixel. It must first be determined if the particle(s) are on the LCD panels or the screen.

Picture is green and fuzzy in shaded areas

I have only see this issue caused by either a defective main bd. or a defective A/V bd. I am sorry but both would require a new bd and no simple repair exists.
