Re: Bummer Bun

The pour-over type of Bunn coffee brewers require several pots of water to fill an empty tank.
1. While unplugged, pour in two and a half to three pots of clean water (put an empty pot underneath the brew basket). When the tank is full, water will come out of the brew basket.
2. Plug the unit in and wait for it to heat - about 5 to 7 minutes. These brewers are meant to be left plugged in all of the time to keep the tank water hot. You will probably heat some rumbling noises which is normal as the water heats.

If for some reason the water isn't hot after 10 minutes you will need to check the thermostat. Unplug the machine and take the screws out of the top. The thermostat has a little dial or a t-bar that you can turn. All the way left is off and all the way right is boiling. Turn this up about 90% of the way and put the top back on the machine and plug it in. If it gets hot, you are ready to brew. If it doesn't get hot, you may have blown the limit thermostat and will need to replace it.

The limit thermostat isn't the same as the thermostat. It is a ceramic and metal item that senses if the tank gets too hot from having the unit plugged in without any or enough water in it. It is inexpensive and relatively simple to change.

Is this the Bun Velocity brew?

The machine has a vacation switch located on the side or back, that must be turned to the on position (I); off is (O), before the machine will heat.

The water coming out is not hot enough of my bun drip maker

There is multiple reasons for this. I could be that the thermostat is bad and kicking off prematurely or not letting enough power through. Also the heater and tank could be corroded or "limed" up. I would start by unpluggin the machine and allowing it to cool. Take the top or panel behind the container off then check if the thermostat, which will have a black knob on it, and make sure it is turned all the way to the right. While you have the top off you can pull the thermostat out of the tank, it will have a rubber grommet and a metal line coming out. Make sure it is not limed up if it is you can use a scouring pad or sand paper to clean it. Hope this helps

What brand of filter ae you using?

Some filters will filter too much and others not enough.

with 1.5 to 2 Oz of coffee in the filter, it should take 4 to 5 minutes to complete a brew of one 64Oz decanter.

Coffee Brewer comes out warm not hot

look at the top of the coffee maker you'll see two screws and the warmer tray and the cover for adding water. remove the two screws and lift the top off. the warmer has two push on spade terminals. pull the wires off them. below is a tray where the water goes and you'll see a brass bushing. this is screwed into a fitting on the water tank. use a piece of steel as a spanner and unscrew this fitting. don't lose the gasket that's under it. the main wires for the burner element and thermostat are also under this tray. look at the top. there's nine screws that hold the top on the water tank. two white wires go to the tank warmer and two wires go to the tank heater inside. you can try turning up the thermostat setting to a higher range and see what happens. there's a copper pipe that comes from the tank to the sprayhead the tank holds approx three urn fulls of water. if you have an analog meter you can check the element for continuity on the RX1 range. Do the same with the tank warmer element. Bunn-o-matic has a web site you can buy replacement parts or nelson appliance can get you parts too.
