Question about Fuji FinePix S5000 Digital Camera

Green & Purple blurry images

I have not dropped the camera at all, taken good care of it. It worked fine yesterday, and now when you look through the viewer or on the LCD screen all you see are blurry green and purple streaks, when you take a picture it just shows a photo of the colored streaks. Whats the deal? Was this my fault? Not my camera, Step-Dads, I don't want him to strangle me! LOL!

I have the same problem. The camera hadn't been used for a few weeks, but was fine last time. I wonder if this was caused by condensation, as the camera was taken from the (warm) house and left in the (cold) car for a few hours before I tried using it. Am currently drying it out to see if that cures it.

Have not used the camera for two months. Turned it on and am getting green and purple blurry images. Changed the batteries. Still the same. Checked all the settings.Still the same. Camera is about 4/5 years old. Camera has not been in a cold or wet area, stored in house. Only thing I can think about that may have caused a problem is coming through an airport, although it was fine when I was on holiday, only since I have come back.

HELP..!! Please.. a few years ago i obtained the "perfect" camera s5000, and for the 1st time ever it has gone wrong. Everything seems to work fine, switches on, will play back images etc, BUT when you try to take a picture the screen and viewfinder will only show coloured distorted purple lines across the whole screen, if you take a picture like this then the playback view also showes the distorted coloured lines. The set up info, time date setting etc are still as crisp and clear as the day it was new. It also shows an exclaimation mark (!) and a hand on the right hand side of the screen with a couple of lines to the right of it so that looks as if it would be this a warning to stop perhaps???

When switching on the viewfinder and screen are white, then flicker and after pressing the shutter I experience exactly the same purple and green blurry images. Is it a faulty CCD? Bernard

My camera also worked fine and suddenly developed the mysterious lime green and magenta purple streaky blurs in the view finder but it will no longer take pictures or flash. I have replaced the batteries and the x-card twice and followed the trouble shooting hints in my manual but to no avail. I really had great results wit this camera and hate to lose it....linda

I've got the same problem. Everything was working fine and now I'm lucky to get one good shot out of 10. The camera was my mothers and she gave it to me when upgrading. I've looked after it, not dropped it and kept it stored when not in use. It's a really bummer and one I hope isn't costly to fix.

Further to my logging this problem, I logged on to the Fuji tech. support area to ask them about it. To fix it would have been £100, so I have since taken up Fuji's trade-in offer and upgraded to the S5700 for £85. The turn-around time was amazingly fast and from what I've seen so far the S5700 is several steps up from the S5000.

In all these cases it appears the CCD (image recording circuit) has absorbed tiny amounts of moisture. These circuits are known to have been manufactured improperly. The only solution is replacement of major circuitry.
Here's a link to some information regarding these problems.

As steve5 said the problem is a defective CCD device. The reason the camera will be covered under an extended warranty for this problem is because SONY made the CCD and is covering the repair or replacement. There is nothing else you can do for this, it is not batteries, memory or anything else.

Same here - I booted up my Finepix M603 and exactly the same problem as you guys - when taking pictures the viewfinder shows green and purple blurry streaks - when you take a picture the colour is 'nearly' normal but there are streaks running down side. I havent dropped it either and was stored safely in a draw for a few months. Any solutions anybody?

It appears the CCD image sensor is going bad. Both these cameras are specified in Canon's technical notice regarding this issue. If Canon determines that this is the problem (and almost certainly it is), they will repair your cameras at no cost, regardless of warranty status. If you're not in the US, contact your regional Canon service facility.
