It doesn't matter whether or not the speaker is connected to my receiver or not. I'm pretty handy. Is there a part I can get to fix this problem my self? The unit weighs to much to ship out to be repaired by Cambridge Sound Works. It would probably not be cost effective to try to get it repaired and I hate to just throw it out. Thanks,
Vinny

- I'm not really sure because the noise is so loud. I just disconnected it. The buzzing sound is extremely loud! Thank you.

- Sorry I threw the damn thing away out of frustration..... good luck
Hi Ok thanks. I cannot be 100 % sure about this without seeing it but it sounds alot like there is a power supply issue, either bridge rec or caps. Caps are very often very obvious. If you get into it and have a look at what is normally the 2 or 4 biggest capacitors at the start/power supply of the board and see if they are ok visibily. If they are bulged, (often they actually explode and leave paper residue) then those are what need to be replaced. Have a look and see.
If its the bridge rec, it could be 4 diodes, fairly large next to each other or a square component with 4 legs out. Need a meter to test, but i would start at caps first All the best

I have a Cambridge Soundworks BassCube10 that had a terminal case of crispy components. I'd love to get a schematic, but I'm guessing that's impossible. However, if anyone could at least tell me the value of R48 it would really help out a lot. It got so hot that nothing at all is legible. Thanks.

I have a BassCube10 that only makes a loud buzzing noise. I snatched the control board out , and was sniffing around hoping for an easy fix, and I see where the board got hot in the area of R63 & R62, ZD3 &ZD4. I found that C28, (4700 mF@50), was on the edge of the hot spot, and one of it's legs had desoldered from the board, and separated from the capacitor. Would it be worth replacing these components, or would I likely just be repeating the failure?

My Basscube 10 died suddenly and I finally got around to taking it apart. Like a few others, I discovered that the board was burnt around the four zener diodes and the R63 resistor. Someone identified the zeners as 15V and the resistor as 1200. I am trying to purchase the correct replacement parts from Mouser but there are further identifying characteristics. What should the power dissipation and current be for the axial zeners? What type of resistor should it be such as carbon composition, film, etc and what should the wattage and voltage rating be? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

When I turn on the sub, it makes a very loud pulsing sound, regardless of the output level, regardless of whether I have the receiver outlet wire plugged into it or not. It does not matter what outlet I plug into in the house. In the past, it has worked just fine and only when I hadn't used it for a few months then turned it on did it exhibit this. Same loud hum here on a basscube 12. I bought this as part of the movieworks 5.1 setup back in 2000. I thought it was the bomb at the time, but the made in china cheap a-s-s parts just reiterate that you get what you pay for.
I'm cheap (and handy) and have tried to fix the amp. I replaced ZD3. ZD4, C26, C27 and the 2 6800uF caps. R63 looked ok although I can't tell what the bands are as they are not spaced correctly and have no idea what the tolerance and multipliers are. Thanks to parris134, I'll try replacing it with a 1200 ohm piece. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that after replacing all those items, it still makes the same loud hum as soon as I plug it in. I'm wondering if R63 is the culprit now. I'll give it a whirl and will report back.
p.s. I think the "S" in basscube 12S stands for sucky.
