SOURCE: My machine Bernina 830 does not run.

Rose, most likely your machine is gummed up and needs oiling. A product called Tri-Flow is best. It can be purchased at most any hardware store. Or just use normal sewing machine oil. Open the top and put a fair amount of oil down behind the knobs and let it soak in. As it soaks just wiggle the knobs or turn them little by little back and forth until they free up. Don't force anything as something will break.
Good luck

SOURCE: Bernina Aurora 430 utomatic button hole

Take it to your local bernina dealer and have them calibrate the buttonhole foot along with the speed control.

SOURCE: bernina 830, worked fine until today... think it

there is a board inside the foot pedal that goes out sometimes you can check this by flipping the foot pedal upside down and at the top right there is a small hole where you can adjust the speed with a flat head screwdriver but be gentle it breaks easy, if its out you can take it to a bernina dealer and they might have a reapired one or they can send yours off for repair since that part is repair only

SOURCE: I have a bernina 830, I replaced the motor but

the 830 has 3 'banks' of terminals to connect to. with the motor in the cover and laying over on its side so you can see the motor and wiring, one motor wire goes to the teminal closest to the machine pulley and the other motor wire goes to the middle terminal.

How can I access the Service program soft keys on my Bernina 830 when the Touchscreen is not calibrated ? The soft keys on the screen have either letters or numbers, can I attach a keyboard ?

If the touchscreen on your Bernina 830 sewing machine is not calibrated, it may be difficult to access the Service program soft keys. However, you may still be able to access the Service program using the following steps:
  1. Turn off your Bernina 830 sewing machine.
  2. Hold down the Reverse button and the Needle up/down button simultaneously.
  3. While holding down these buttons, turn on the sewing machine.
  4. Continue to hold down the Reverse and Needle up/down buttons until the Service program screen appears.
  5. Once you are in the Service program, you can navigate using the numbered soft keys that appear on the screen.
As for attaching a keyboard, it is not possible to directly connect a keyboard to the Bernina 830 sewing machine. However, some users have had success using a USB to Serial adapter to connect a keyboard to their sewing machine. This method may require additional software and configuration to work properly, and it is not officially supported by Bernina.

Bernina 830: When making a buttonhole... the zigzag #1 stitch on left side looks nice... then the #2 bottom bar tack looks good...

Please tell us which Bernina 830 you have--old mechanical Record or new computerized?

Here's a recommendation from a Bernina owner (Ellen Rosenthal on Yahoo Group "BonosBerninas":
I agree about the buttonholer. The reverse stitching never looks as good as the left or forward side. I “hack” this by pivoting my fabric and only
going forward-avoiding the reverse stitch. Also helps to do the whole process twice and to use some tear away or wash away interfacing.

There is another Yahoo group called "BerninaThirtySomethings" that is a great resource.

Needle threaded is stuck in up position will not return 830 bernina

Bernina 830 Record??? Or newer Bernina 830 computerized?

If it's a Record, could very well need a good cleaning and oiling. Older mechanical machines need periodic lube to keep them running smoothly and quietly.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

I have a Bernina 830. Using #03 foot....bobbin thread through the hole in the arm of the bobbin. Why does it not go in reverse to finish the buttonhole?

If it is the older Bernina 830 Record, could be some of the parts have seized due to lack of oil. Frequently, seldom used functions (levers, dials, feed dog control) are the first signs.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Be sure to move the dials/levers and apply oil there as well.

My Bernina 830 will not switch stitches. It says the number but shows straight stitch and sews straight stitch

Is it a new 830 computerized model or the older 830 Record mechanical?

If it is the 830 Record, it needs oiling--1-2 drops of good quality sewing machine oil (specifically concentrate on the stitch selector lever and oil the metal parts that move against other metal parts) Do NOT oil the cams, plastic gears, any rubber parts, ie belts, bobbin winder wheel.

What is the difference between a bernina record 930 and just a bernina 930

At the present time, Bernina 930 Record and Bernina 930 are the same machine. Although, technically the name is Bernina 930 Record, referring to the mostly mechanical sewing machine produced in the 1980's. They are very coveted machines and one of the more popular models.

However, Bernina has, in the past few years, begun producing computerized machines and labeling them with the same numbers of older mechanical machines (makes things very confusing), ie Bernina 830 Record vs Bernina 830 computerized model. At this point in time, Bernina has not yet produced a computerized 930.

How do you make a buttonhole with a Bernina 830?

Hey, I have a Bernina 830 Record. If it's the same machine, set your stitch length at 0 then back it off about 1 to 2 turns. The middle button is your button hole. Got to one and it goes down the left side, #2 is the bottom cross bar, #3 goes backwards up to form the right side of the buttonhole and $4 is the tack across the top, #5 stitches it into place. I have my original manual if you have any other questions!
