There is only one visible fixing screw, and removing that does not seem to help it come apart. But since I first posted this query, all is now well. I soaked the cutters in WD 40 and now it works again!

Take something like a credit card and slide it along the seam holding one side apart while trying to pop the clips with the credit card. You will ultimately bend some positioning tabs but nothing critically to the montior.

Agreed, there is a seventh screw under the label, as wstrooper suggests. Press along the label and you'll find the tell-tale indentation!
Having taken it apart (a further 4 screws to remove the nylon housing from the base, and another seven to remove the nylon covering for the gears), it has revealas a stripped gear (the one nearest the motor), caused by too many sheets of paper being fed in.
This problem seems to repeat amongst several P70CM owners. Shame the motor doesn't have a cut-out if it hits too great a resistance, rather than strip the gear of its teeth.

The manufacturer dosen't post manuals for this. They recommend a "Qualified Technician". The reason being, Static shock to the elctronic components inside, electrical hazards to people, etc. But, if you must, If you've removed the main case screws to separate the case, you'll have to "UnSnap" it. The casing is ALSO a "Snap Together" as well as screwed together. Be carefull or you'll break the tabs. I really can't give you anymore info than that because I don't know the placement of the snap-tabs since they are along the inside of the case and may not be seen from the outside. MAKE SURE THE UNIT IS NOT PLUGGED IN FIRST!!!

There is one more screw under the warrenty void if label removed label. Push your screw driver through the label and unscrew the screw. The top will lift off.

Once you remove the screw from the battery compartment you will need to find a long flat iten to pry the remote open, such as a knife, metal ruler or the like. There is no way to do this without marking the sde of the remote. Simply place the pry between the two halves of the remote and gently pry. You will hear a snapping sound as their are 4 internal catches on either side. Tease it apart in more than one place along the edge. and it will eventually pop apart.
If you have the slow button problem a small circle of tin foil/aluminium paper glued to the back of the rubber pad will have your remote working good as new.
