Question about Toshiba 46HM95 46" HDTV

1 Answer

I've narrowed the problem down to 2 possibilites...

While my tv was on and actively displaying picture I heard a loud pop. At that instant, the video cut out and remained absent upon restarting. Under normal circumstances, I would have assumed the lamp died considering it was under heavy usage for nearly 2 years, but since it died with a very loud pop, I suspect it could be the light engine.

When I power on the tv I get sound, but no video. The red power light remains lit while a green light flashes 16 times, then the tv automatically cycles the power. This process repeats indefinitely.

Any advice as to what happened (even pure speculation) is very appreciated. Also, I feel confident in disassembling any part of my dlp to check for damage if it'll help isolate the problem. Please help!

Jvc 56g787 heard a loud pop ,then the TV and Blue power light blink very fast,no picture. How can I tell if I need a new picture tube or power supply board or both? IS this something that needs to be...

First of all, there is not a picture tube in this set....ahhh...anyway, the loud pop you heard was probably a filter capacitor going bad or possibly a semiconductor blowing can take the cover off and look for burnt components and /or a blown capacitor...there may be debris in there if it was an electrolytic capacitor, as these contain paper and aluminum plate material..they usually look like one of those party poppers when they may try to fix yourself, but if there is another cause that caused the fail;ure.. be prepared for another may just need to take to the shop

RCA HD50LPW164 turned on TV made a pop

the loud pop you heard was probably a capacitor blowing its top. The grinding noise is likely high voltage arching that was occuring due to rising voltage since capacitor isn't there to smooth it out.

Tv went out after loud pop and has clicking noise does not turn on

If you have a Sony DLP, then the loud pop you heard is your lamp.  The lamps last approx. 4K-6K viewing hours.  Read your manual for replacement part number to reorder and very simple to replace yourself.

Heard a loud

Sounds like it could be your power supply board. Same kind of issue i had. Try unplugging your tv completely for an hour.

Following up on my Feb 7 post. My new lamp arrived, and I replaced it and it works great. The old lamp had many shards of glass come out of it. It was tore up. I saved some money buy purchasing just the lamp and not the cartridge. It's a little bit more work to take apart, but saves money. Mitsubishi wanted $289 for the lamp replacement kit. I got a lamp for $114. TV is working just fine now!
