Maytag Legacy Series Leaking

My washing machine is leaking where the tub and
transmission meet. I believe this is the tub seal and possibly a bearing. It looks like many other people have had this same problem. What is the best and easiest way to resolve this problem?

Re: Maytag Legacy Series Leaking

I have the same problem as many other Maytag owners of this model machine have. I spoke to a repairman and he told me to "junk" the machine. He said the cost was about $300 to $350 to fix and he WOULD NOT guarantee his work on this machine. He said that Maytag knew of the problem but refused to do any sort of a recall.
My solution:
1. Buy another machine and junk the Matag
2. Tell all your frends and neighbors NOT TO BUY MAYTAG...
3. Drop the old machine off on the MAYTAG door step.

Re: Maytag Legacy Series Leaking

I had the repair guys out 3 months ago maytag paid for labor I paid $150 for seal and bearings, tub froze and belt broke. the tub now is making the loud screams that others complain about I contacted maytag and reapir servce and talked with the tech. this machine is a piece of S$%^ the seal fails on a regular basis and bearings get water in them. I just missed my 3 month waranty and will not pay for that repair again. people at home depot agree that this machine is trouble. the machine must be taken completely down from the top to replace the bearings and or the belt. the tub must be removed. If you call maytag they will pay for the labor but not the parts.

My Maytag A9700 is leaking from the bottom of the outer tub. I have changed both the tub bearing and the stem seal but it is still leaking - even more than before I started. My question is whether I

If the boot seal was properly seated onto the outer tub lip, then you should focus on the water seal (#39 in the graphic - it should have come with the mounting stem kit) as the source of the leak. Extra care must be used when installing this over the agitator drive shaft - some recommend adding a lubricant (Maytag center seal grease works well) to the shaft before sliding the mounting stem (and water seal) down onto the agitator shaft. Also, check the two sealing surfaces where the top of the boot seal (#40) meets the bottom of the mounting stem (#30). Look for cracks, chips or any bits of debris. Anything that keeps those two surfaces from meeting perfectly will cause a leak. These repairs should go fairly smoothly, but leaking water seals and chipped boot seals can cause problems.

Maytag Washer Model LAT9416AAE - Top tub seal is leaking or where the tub and the shaft meet is leaking. What would the cost be for parts and repair (service fees, labor, etc.)?

The usual charge when i have repaired that is around $375
in addation to the seal a tub bearing would be required since the seal has leaked it very likely has rusted the bearing. To replace those both the inner and outer tub have to come apart, the breakdown would be
Service Fee $75
Labor $100

labor and service fees vary from company to company and that is probably low,yet it is a great washer and may be well worth investing in to repair

We have a Maytag top-loader model A482 which is probably 25 years old. I found water on the floor under the machine when the last load finished washing. What's the first place to look for the leak? I'm...

The most common thing that will cause a leak is the tub seal. If the tub seal is leaking water will be comming from the center of the tub where the transmission meets the tub. This page will show how to replace the seal.

There is also an air-gap that will often leak. If this is the case the water will be comming from the left hand side at the top. The air-gap is in line with the water inlet. This page will tell more

If they are not the problem you will have to look for a leaking hose or something to that nature.

Leaking washer

This is going to be the tub seal. Take the front off and check to see if the water is leaking right where the tub and the transmission meet and if so the seal is leaking. This also makes the washer noisy. This page should help

Loud spin cycle - leaks water

No boot on a top loader, the tub seal and bearing are gone, water leaked from the tub seal, rusted the bearing and quite possibly the milk stool and transmission. Check your warranty, the transmission may have a 5 year limited warranty, usually it will include the tub seal and bearing with the kit.

Maytag legacy series washer leaking

Price is right. Repair time is right for an inexperienced repairman. Worth it ? If you watch what you are doing and not rush then, yes, it's worth it.

Leaking water from underneath.

sounds like several problems. sounds like your boot stem/ seal is leaking and possibly the tub bearing is rusted. I generally replace both at the same time as long as the machine is apart anyway. As for the squealing and tub slamming to a stop, that is your brake package and bearing have dried and/or rusted and need to be replaced
