Do the following for resetting the lamp hour

1.Attach the power cord to the projector and plug it into an electrical outlet.
2.Locate the buttons on the top of the projector and simultaneously hold down the "Enter", "Menu" and "down arrow" buttons, then press the "Standby/On" button. 3.Continue holding all four buttons depressed until the lamp indicator light begins flashing green. The counter is now reset. Installation projector sharp xg-e690u

Unplu the unit
Locate the user service screw, the lamp door should be underneath the projector.
open the lamp door
the lamp is removed by undoing 2 or 3 screws and pulling out with the handle.
a genuine replacement lamp with cage will mean you won't have to worry about wiring the lamp.
put new one in push connectors in firmly
do up the 2 or 3 lamp screws close the lamp door and screw up
reset procedure usually plug in power while holding down up, left and power and the lamp will be reset.

Hope this helps you

I have an old video projector, a SHARP XG-C40XE, and I was told that there is no immediate need for a replacement lamp after 2000 hours. Instead of changing the lamp, you can simply reset the built in...

I would replace the Lamp. Too many times I have seen people reset the Lamp Timer and when the Lamp explodes, it also causes the Ballast to fail. At that point it may not be repairable due to parts not being available or the cost of them being through the roof.
Contact Sharps Customer Service and see if they could hook you up with a Lamp and the Lamp Timer Reset info.
That is my recommendation.

Having problems with my sharp notevision XG-C40XE

Your lamp is not lighting up most likely. Try removing the lamp assembly and clean the contacts. If that does not work then you will probably need to replace the lamp. Also try resetting the timers. Refer to you owner's manual for info on how.
