Samsung VP-MX10 won't charge

The battery charge light blinks slowly orange whilst on charge but at no time does the battery actually charge. The unit works fine when plugged into the mains. Could this be a battery problem resolved by getting a new battery - or is it a more sinister issue? Thanks
