Is that the router's login screen that you're talking about? Did you set a password at the AR740 before? Try possible passwords that you'd commonly using.

Try this link & hopefully this will help you..

How Do I get the Security Code

Here is a link where you can view the manual. If you follow the procedures to reset your router (page 5-7 top and page 7-7) then you can use the default username and password along with all the default settings. "To restore the factory default configuration settings without knowing the administration password
or IP address, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router.
1. Press and hold the Default Reset button until the power light blinks on (about 10 seconds).
2. Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.
If the wireless router fails to restart or the power light continues to blink or turns solid amber,
the unit may be defective. If the error persists, you might have a hardware problem and should
contact technical support.
"Once you are able to log back on, you can configure it the way you want. :

How do i set bridge mode?

Depends if you need a wireless or wired bridge?

Here is some info for you.

Infrastructure Mode

With a wireless Access Point, you can operate the wireless LAN in the infrastructure mode. This
mode provides wireless connectivity to multiple wireless network devices within a fixed range or
area of coverage, interacting with wireless nodes via an antenna.

In the infrastructure mode, the wireless access point converts airwave data into wired Ethernet
data, acting as a bridge between the wired LAN and wireless clients. Connecting multiple Access
Points via a wired Ethernet backbone can further extend the wireless network coverage. As a
mobile computing device moves out of the range of one access point, it moves into the range of
another. As a result, wireless clients can freely roam from one Access Point domain to another and
still maintain seamless network connection.

Can't establish connection by cable

Assuming you would have checked your LAN port. Try using a USB LAN port device and see if it picks up. Else you can test connecting the modem via Ethernet cable to another machine. Does it work,? If it does then its your machine.

3. When you reset the router in your console window you will see characters that you cannot read. You have to stop the session and set your baud rate to 115200. This will let you increase the speed that you use to transfer the file.
4. At the rommon prompt enter xmodem -c {filename}
5. When prompted, enter y to continue
6. From your hyperterminal prompt, click on transfter then send file
7. Select the IOS image then change the protocol to xmodem via the dropdown box then click send.
8. After the IOS has been downloaded, change the boot order by using the confreg 0x2102 command.

Many Wi-Fi issues can be resolved by doing the following:
Basic troubleshooting
  • Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
  • Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
  • Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.

I see. I'm not really familiar on how to configure it. As far as what I've checked at its datasheet, it didn't mention that you can use IE to configure it. Have you been to its web ui before? What did you use to access it?

Additional question

If there's a reset button then I would advise you to reset it.

You can also download the data sheet before doing the reset:

and according to the data sheet, your device came with a setup cd. Try to re-run the cd if you still have it.

No access to port 25 for wireless clients

What happens if you connect one of the wireless machines with an ethernet cable? Any chance you have a Firewall of AV program blocking port 25 on these machines? Have you tried Safe Mode With Networking? I'm sure you realize that is most often caused by the ISP blocking Port 25, but I assume they would have told you so if this was the case.

Information About Management Mode for Firmware Recovery

What is Management Mode? If you encounter an irrecoverable condition with the WRT54G v5, you can use Management Mode to recover the router by uploading a new firmware image. In Management Mode, the router will have just enough functionality to load a newer firmware. You should be able to recover the router is most situations. When will the WRT54G v5 enter Management Mode? The WRT54G v5 will enter Management Mode when: * The router's firmware is corrupt (for example, when the router's Power light is blinking), OR * When the router has been reset incorrectly using the following steps: 1. Unplug the power cord. 2. Press and hold the Reset button. 3. Plug power cord back in (Reset button still held in). 4. Wait about 5-10 seconds. How do I get out of Management Mode? * To get out of Management Mode, simply unplug the power cord from the back or router for ten (10) seconds and plug the power cord back in (without using the Reset button). If the router's firmware is complete and without error, the router will start up normally. If the above does not work, try: * Download a local copy of WRT54G Version 5 firmware that you can use for recovery. Visit to download the latest firmware. After unzipping and extracting the firmware file, click on the Browse button from the Management Mode page, select the firmware file, and upgrade the firmware. After this, Reset the router normally (by holding in the Reset button for 10 seconds) and the router should exit Management Mode. How do I enter Management Mode manually to recover my router? NOTES: * The PC that will be used for the recovery MUST be connected to the router via a hardwired Ethernet cable and not a wirelessly connected computer. * Be sure that you have a local copy of WRT54G Version 5 firmware that you can use for recovery. Visit to download the latest firmware. * In most cases, the router will be able to provide an IP address via DHCP when in Management Mode. If your PC does not automatically receive an IP address from the router, you will have to set up a static IP address for the upgrade. See Answer ID 534 for more information. * When the router is forced into Management Mode, the Power light will blink. 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the router. 2. Hold down the Reset button. 3. While holding down the Reset button, plug back in the power cord to the router. 4. Continue to hold the Reset button for five (5) seconds. After five (5) seconds, release the button. 5. Wait for about one (1) minute. Then, on a computer connected to the router, launch a web browser (for example, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox). 6. Type in the router's IP address of into the Address field and press the [Enter] key. 7. The Management Mode - Firmware Upgrade interface should appear. NOTE: If you accidentally enter into Management Mode, you can exit by simply unplugging the power cord from the router and by plugging it back in. 8. Click Browse and locate the firmware file. 9. Click Apply to start the firmware upgrade process. 10.Once the firmware upgrade process has successfully completed, an "Upgrade Success" message will appear to confirm that the upgrade has ended. 11. Unplug the power cord from the back of the router and plug it back in -- this will restart your router using the new firmware.
