Question about Hitachi 51F500 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Hitachi 51f500 we have TV for about 5 years. In the past six mos the tv turns off by itself and then maybe an hour later will come on by itself. We do not want to spend alot of money to fix this, but can you advise what the problem may be and who we can call to get it fixed. Thank you Robert Schroeter

It sounds a lot like a micro/eprom problem and Hitachi addressed this in a service bulletin quite some time ago. Their fix was to add a jumper from I007 pin 1 to cathode of D019... Problems ranged from picture freezing to on/off control without prompting. Not an expensive fix and can easily be done in-home if you get a good reputable shop. We've done several in-home on a simple service call.
Hope this helps!

Haven't used our TV in six mos. It turned on OK but five minutes later turned off; but five minutes later turned on again but then turns off five minutes later. What to do? New TV or let it warm up?

Check all the connections of the flat cables inside the TV. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

Hitachi 50V720 No sound with HDMI - no Component video inputs

Right now there seems to be many people with the same TV problems with sony and HDMI cables. Most of the solutions are resetting the TV and sony product. Try leaving your TV unplugged for a hour to let it reset itself.

Hitachi 51F500 (Two separate problems?)

My guess is that the sound you heard was that of some High Voltage discharges that could have fed back and damaged some semiconductors including the microprocessor itself. Since it could be a very expensive repair, I would be very tempted to look around for a new HDTV by JVC or Toshiba. Hitachi has slipped a notch or two in recent years according to my experience.
