Question about Amana Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

My AMANA PTAC unit model # PTH093b35ae is not producing heat. My air conditioner works fine. So, I get cold air. However, when I switch to heat, it still runs but does not produce any heat.

Usually when I switch to heat a 2nd fan or something kicks in and then it starts to blow heat but it doesn't do that anymore. Is that the compressor or heat pump? I have no idea if it's the same thing. I have one of the older units so mine is not digital I have knobs instead. Edit: I fixed it myself. I changed out the control board which was a simple fix. Thanks everyone

Check the heater fuses or breaker. If fuses are damaged replace with new ones. If breaker trips reset breaker. Check heater contactor for defective contact point and defective holding coil. If contactor is found defective replace contactor. Check also heating coils for damage and defective thermal sensors. Replace defective parts found.

It is not switching from cooling into heating. You probably need to have a service tech look at the unit. Sorry. It could be control board or stuck reversing valve.

SOURCE: Hi, I have an amana

replace it,most likely the freon leaked out,if the compressor is running and the fan is blowing but not getting cold most likely you have a leak in the sealed system.

I have an amana heat pump a/c PTAC unit 14700 btu and it seems the compressor is not engaging or blowing cold air

could be a bad run capacitor or the unit needs to be cleaned take it outside and wash the condenser coil the outside coil and the evap coil on the inside be careful not to get the electric circuits inside the unit wet. I would wash the coils first and then see if it cools. Hope this helps

If you unplug an Amana PTAC unit and it freezes what could happen?

If you are not going to run the unit put a large bag over the out door section. The unit will be just fine.

My amana ptac is not heating....the code "np" is displayed....how do I correct this...we just installed the unit and know little about operation. Thanks

I don't see this error code in the manual. I do see nP as an error code for Window Switch lockout. I just had this happen to me and they had me reset the control board.

Remove case, flick master switch to OFF for 10 seconds. Press Heat/Cool same time turn switch back on HOLD until off light comes on.

You should be fixed. Just had to do this for my unit. I was playing around with the settings and turned on the window switch option by accident.

Amana PTAC

Sounds like if this is a heat pump, maybe it tripped out on high pressure. Maybe just unplugging the system may reset the control boards. This maybe due to a dirty filter or dirty evaporator coil.
