While player a dvd the screen will go black ,still

while playing a dvd the screen will go black . i can still hear the movie sound. i noticed that if i fold the screen down and reopen that the picture comes back. i noticed that there is a small switch at the base of the screen that triggers this. any suggestions on how to fix this

That is called a limit switch. Disassemble the player and check this switch. It might be stucked. Perform continuity test using an ohmmeter. If resistance does not change when switched and released, replace it. Check also for loose ribbon connection. Realign connections and resolder connector terminals.
