Yes you can. I scrape the end that is going in the ground about an inch. I have had great luck doing it that way. Good luck.

SOURCE: roses bushes are stunted with

Hello

When down near the ground level make flush cuts at the bud union area so stubs aren't left to begin health issues.

Cut just above the bud at a 45 degree angle going away from the bud. Getting too close to the bud can kill it so adjust to cut just above it. When cutting watch the center of the tissue and prune back to where it's clean, white tissue. Especially in cases of older woody canes, there sometimes are brown spots in the center of the cane. Cut back to where what remains is solid white center.

Prune to open the center of the plant to light and air circulation Make your cuts at a 45-degree angle, about 1/4 inch above a bud that is facing toward the outside of the plant. Make sure it is a clean cut (not ragged) Remove all broken, dead, dying or diseased wood (Any branches that look dry, shriveled or black. Cut until the inside of the cane is white.) Remove any weak or twiggy branches thinner than a pencil If cane borers are a problem in your area, seal the cut with a white glue, such as Elmer?s. Remove ****** growth below the graft. Remove any remaining foliage When to Prune Roses Timing is determined by the class of the rose plant and the zone in which it is growing. Most rose pruning is done in the spring, with the blooming of the forsythia as a signal to get moving. If you don't have forsythia, watch for when the leaf buds begin to swell on your rose plants, meaning the bumps on the canes get larger and reddish in color. Hybrid tea roses are the most particular about pruning. If you don't know what type of rose you have, watch the plant for a season. If it blooms on the new growth it sends out that growing season, prune while dormant or just about to break dormancy, as stated above. If it blooms early, on last year's canes, don't prune until after flowering.

SOURCE: when to cut rose bushes winter or spring

Yeah the freeze a bit but if you cut them low and pile straw on them they ride out the winter ok. I cut mine in the fall and pile leaves on them.

SOURCE: how do i permanetly remove rose bushes

Hmmm... how does this question relate to sewing machines?

Hire some one to take them out if you can. Otherwise wear gloves and start cutting then dig out the root ball.

When is the best time to prune rose plant

I like to prune mine after every blooming, but I live in a climate where it blooms year round. I am not sure where you live, but if you have a cold winter, prune them heavily just before the spring growth season. Depending on where you live that could be anytime between January and April. If these are older established roses. Prune them back after each blooming during the growing season. You will get a lot of flowering this way.
