Gateway folded long ago. 12 years old today. (2004 made)
old square screen. not good that. (today)
but all old monitors die, all do, because of CCFL lamps.
life is 5 years 24/7 used, or 11 hrs /day for 12 years, they die.
Just so you know, they will die, soon.ok>

so you are the lucky one, not dead black screens, as all are now.
no PC stated, no resolution stated. 1280 x 1024 (only works)
no statement as to using the OSD to auto align, tried.
NO OS stated on PC, windows, if yes , XP ? w7 up is best. never XP ever. again

i can not see your PC or screen or what you have setup.
I can not see the good side can I and that tells me all I need to know
why not post photo of it messing Up, so WE can SEE.

but here is the OSD screen menu button

    No PC stated
but the OS must must run PnP plug and play
and find the config files for the monitor
MIcrosoft dropped support on vast number of old devices so no config file exists.
one thing in the file is that your screen is square(4:5) and not normal, 16:9
    so fails.

why in the world post lacking what is there .
    what PC what OS?
that way we can cure this.

    or here is one way.
go to windows safe mode, F8 (up to W8)
now you see video. 800x600 (see square)
next, change the video resolution to
    1280 x 1024
    this too is sqaure
so reboot and it lands there, and then adjust monitor to use 1280 x 1024
    centered

there are only 2 ways to do this on any PC
use the correct config file for you monitor
    or do so manually, forced.

this file is not a monitor driver it is a config file, a file that tells the OS
the limits of you old square monitor.
and you dont have this file now.
    that is a fact.

here I looked inside microsofts huge driver catalog servers , in cluding these.
    http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/...

as you can see XP is it.
you can ask ACER not for the file but it will not be there, but do try, they now own the name gateway. gateway is really dead.
USA factory shut its doors. long ago.

    but you can try it.

    download that
    see cab file
    double click and pray.
    cross fingers, for it works.
it is only designed for XP or older PCs
2001 or older, sorry, but that is a fact.
you are 12 year in the future now.

SOURCE: ViewSonic 19" flat screen monitor goes black - intermittently

Hi,
There could be a problem with your display card settings or the display card itself. If you are using Windows operating system, make sure that you have the monitor driver installed for that specific monitor. This is to ensure that Windows only allows settings for which your particular monitor was designed.
Let me know if I can assist you any further regarding this.
Best wishes,

SOURCE: same problem 2 seconds on, then turns black

The problem with the monitor is the power inverter board. I took my monitor apart and tested all the power outputs. The ones going to the main board where ok but the ones going to the backlight where different. I changed the three capacitors on the power board that where located between the two heat sinks I think it was the 1000uf and the two 470uf. They looked ok but when i tested them they where off. Next on the opposite side of the board with all the little componites there are a few dry joins that you have to resolder. If you cant find then you can just resolder the whole back board it should only take 30min. If you have no idea what i am talking about i would not sugest taking the monitor apart.

SOURCE: Dell flat screen monitor does not come on after

Sounds like a capacitor on the power strip inside the monitor is failing.
The cost to repair can run $400.00. A tv repair shop may be able to fix it, but most technicians recommend buying a new monitor.
However, if you are experienced in electronics, you can disassemble the monitor and replace the capacitor. Radio Shack sells them for between $15 to $20.

SOURCE: dell latitude D610. Screen goes black. External Monitor OK.

Make sure you have not accidentally used the FN+F5 key
That combination sets the laptop to use an external display.

If using that does not give you a display take a small torch (flashlight if in USA) and shine it at an angle on the laptop screen.
If you can see any sort of picture you would be looking at replacement of some minor parts to the laptop screen

Hope this gives you the information you need. If not add any extra information you may have and lets see if we can FixYa

My Acer Aspire One has half a good screen and half a black screen. Everything seems to be working as long as you only use the left half of the screen.

Power it up with an external monitor connected. If you get a full display on the external monitor, this confirms you have a problem with the built-in screen or the built-in lead connecting it to the motherboard, and not an item like the motherboard or built-in graphics chip (which are used regardless, whether image is sent to the internal screen or external monitor). The internal screen can be replaced, but before doing that, I'd suggest checking that the internal lead from the motherboard to the screen is intact and secure. Unfortunately, this entails some disassembly, which most home users would not be comfortable with.

Hello Sir, I am using DELL E173FP LCD monitor. My CPU absolutely fine I see initially booting thing on my monitor display then it gets black. I can hear starting sound of Windows XP, that too is fine. When...

You might need to change the screen refresh rate. Go do Control Panel> Display> Setting> Advance, choose 60 Hz. In order to make your Monitor able to display, restart the PC, press F8 on the keyboard frequently upon splashing ( 1 or 2 seconds after PC restarts). Select enable VGA mode by pressing up arrow of the keyboard> press enter. The display should look bigger, then you can start adjusting the screen refresh rate to 60 Hz

Black screen after a couple of seconds

The monitor needs to be replaced. I had an LG LCD that did this luckily it was still under warranty. Contact the maker and have your receipt handy. Otherwise buy a new monitor. Monitors tend to be replacement only

If I Come Out Of Standby, Gateway FPD 1830 flickers, then black

It's a bad back light inverter. These models are NOTORIOUS for them. It's a simple fix for a technician and not very expensive. I fixed mine about 2 years ago and it's still going strong.
You can purchase replacement inverters and if you're handy with a screwdriver you can fix it yourself.

Picture not centered on my philips 47'' lcd tv

NOTE:(Edited and copied from another thread on Fixya.com, c7carl)

Picture is not centered on monitor leaving a 2 1/2 inch; black border on Philips LCD
By dmorrow54 on Nov 13, 2007
Again, nothing in manual for Philips LCD will correct the fact that the picture in HD-D mode will not center. The picture runs off the monitor on the left (facing the monitor) with a 2 1/2" black border on the right (facing the monitor). Using the format button on the remote of directional arrows will not correct the issue. The wide-screen/ full-screen function with format does nothing. Moving into TV mode, the format function works to display screen in several ways 4:3, 19:2, super-zoom, wide-screen, full-screen. Help, please. posted 3 years ago

I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me.

WOW! It works!! The picture on my Magnavox (aka Philips) 37MF321D had shifted to the right. I figured I had a big repair bill coming up soon. But hey! Just used the TV remote as described by "Guest', and re-centered the picture to the left. Wallah! Thanks ""Guest" whomever you are! Reply
