Sounds like you need to do a color convergence. If you still have the owner's manual, it will give great detail on how to do this. The convergence menu is accessed from the video menu on the tv.
The tv has three color picture tubes, red, blue and green. The convergence alignment adjust each tube so that color from each tube overlaps each over to create a white image on the screen. Most tv's only allow you to adjust the blue and red colors.
Convergence should be performed each time the tv is moved and at least once annually.

You have a bad convergence board. Replace two of the STK 392-040 ICs. And check all the resistors that are next to these ICs. Rplace the resistors as neccessary. This will repair your TV. Thanks for asking...sorry it took so long to find you!

Hi, you might be experimenting a color wheel problem.The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms.The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises.The other thing that it could be is the DMD board.This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors.When it starts to fail it will create black bars,pixelation,color distortion or white dots on screens. if the option for convergence is still listed under the setting section of the on screen menu, then you need a convergence power supply board. If the convergence option is missing from the menu you need the ITC222 convergence missing repair kit. You can get either one at the following link they include instructions for the repair.
