Question about Nikon Coolpix 2100 Digital Camera

Mikon Coolpix 2100

My Coolpix 2100 sometimes 'freezes'. After taking a few shots both of the little lights on the back come on and nothing will work. The only solution seems to be to turn it off (or take the batteries out), wait a bit and start again. Very irritating when you've just found a subject worthy of a sequence of shots!

Thanks for that. As you say, the problem seems, partly, to be related to battery power. I've started using Energizer Lithium AA cells and the camera worked well again until I started adjusting the zoom in conditions that also needed flash (a wooded valley in Norway), then the whole thing started again. However, as you suggest, I switched it off, by removing and reinserting the batteries, and left it off for a while - sorted. Blasted nuisance though, 'cos otherwise it's a good pocket camera.
    Cheers, Biker-d

My camera freezes like this when the battery starts to run low. I think it has something to do with the flash. I just leave it to sort itself out for a few minutes even though I'm usually missing some good photo opportunities n eventually it sorts itself out. Trick is not to keep turning it on and off, and fiddling with the dial.

My pictures are constantly coming out blury...I have it on sport mode, what else should I be checking.

Blur is usually caused by one the following problems. 1) Camera is unable to focus so the shot is out of focus. 2) The hand shakes during a shot that has a longer exposure (shutter speed) and 3) There is not enough light so the camera holds the shutter OPEN (seeing) while to subject is moving. In most cases you will have few problems when you have plenty of light. Many indoor areas when you zoom in have too little light to take a quick non blurry photo.

Flash can freeze motion. The flsh is quick and it is like a strobe freezing action. A tripod prevents camera shake.

Camera Keeps freezing/turning off

Sounds like the camera is writing to the CF card. If this is after taking several shots, even worse in continuous mode. That's why it won't shut off or anything, it has to finish that before it will shut down. If you have access to one try a different card. Remember to reformat it in this camera. Page 38 of your manual. If that works for you take the card into a camera shop and ask them if they will do a low format a newer camera like a XSi, then reformat it in your camera again before you use it.

It's quite likely a manufacturer error which Nikon will fix for free. Go to http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html
I just got mine back - took about five weeks because they were out of stock on the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) that they had to replace. Don't give up on the camera. It's worth having it repaired since all it will cost you is to send it to them. Have had the camera four years and it's been to Europe and the Caribbean with us.

Camera possessed, lol

From the menu of the camera, you need to change and select the settings for the pictures. Some cameras have this option where it will take one or more picture automatically. Also check that the self timer is off.

Having problems with the flash\ blurred and grainy images

You should not use the flash for these shots (unless you connect a powerful external flash), it won't help you at this distance. You should use the shutter priority mode and experiment with shutter speed (no flash) to get the best result - for sports action it should probably be faster than 1/100 sec. If the light is too low you may use higher ISO setting - 200 or 400 (though higher ISO will result in grainier images, it may be your only option for blur-free photos).
