You need to configure your bios setting by doing so, your 1st boot device must be cd rom. how? upon power-on you need to press the delete button to appear the bios then configure setting as stated above then save and exit. note, cd winxp must be inside cd rom to start your format operation.

I have formatted my harddrive. Now when i am trying to install xp sp2 i get a screen saying BOOTMGR is missing. Please help me on this.

You will need to set the laptop to boot from CD with your windows disk in the drive. If you provide the make/model of the laptop, I may be able to tell you how to do so if you do not know.

Xp recovery

You need to download all the drivers installer files from manufacturer website first, and also all the software you want to install automatically with Windows. Then you build a Windows Xp boot CD with all the software setup embedded.

This can be caused by errors on the CD-ROM media, or by a bad CD-ROM drive. Try using a different CD-ROM drive if you have one.
