Question about Epson CX8400 All-In-One InkJet Printer
The Epson C60 series printers - and others I'm sure - have what are basically sponges in the bottom to soak up excess ink from their ink head cleaning process. After a certain number of cycles of cleaning the ink head, it reaches a counter level that decides your sponges are full and won't allow you to print anymore. You can open the printer case and clean out the sponges. Then you need to search online for freeware that will allow you to reset the counter in your printer. It's a hassle to do all of this, but if you don't want to spend money on a new printer it is time well spent.

No. Only thing is the drivers are different for different operating systems and need at times to be updated.
But the software does not limit the lives of the printers.
Now that being said. They are designed with a determined print life in pages.
That normally is not in the user guides but some smaller printers are designed for 100, to 150 thousand pages.
While others run into the millions of pages of useful life.
Also, if the printer is extremely old, there are software limitations due the old technology. Thats no inteltional, thats simply due to technology changes that occur.

Yes. They have built in page counters which automatically shut the printer down after so many pages. The idea is that you then have to take the printer to a epson service centre and pay £10 for a "basic service" i.e. to have the counter reset.

Most drivers can be found for your hardware at the Company support site in this case: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=41662&infoType=Overview
If you need anything other than what they offer, they usually have a technical support contact. It does appear that drivers for Windows on this specific model number are readily available.
Good luck and happy printing!
