Question about Canon ZR500 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Hello For no apparent reason last night, I started getting the REMOVE THE CASSETTE warning when attempting to record or playback. I tried several different cassette, powering down, etc. The CANON website ays usually this is condensation, but that otehr problems can also result in this warning. Apparently there is not condensation since the unit has had overnight to dry. But I still get the warning 'REMOVE THE CASSETTE when I attempt too record or playback tapes that I know are not defective. Worst of all, I borrowed this camcorder from a friend to record with. NOw if I can't get it working again, I will have to replaceit for them, which I can't afford to do. Please advise. All the best

Just called Canon support 1 (800) 828-4040 to log this issue. The website shows a "Product Advisory" for this problem so they recognize that this is a major issue. The Canon support rep confirmed this and mentioned (tho' cannot guarantee) that Canon should fix this for free. She gave me instructions on returning the camcorder and offered courtesy shipping. We'll see what happens....It's important that people log this issue with Canon. This is clearly a massive defect!

Cassette will not eject. When we attempt to play it, we get a message that says "remove the cassette." But we can't remove it.

I called the service center that Canon gave me and they said it's 40$ just to find the problem then its more to fix it! I used this camera for 5 hours since I got it as a gift 1 year 1/2 ago.

I don't recommend any Canon ZR to anyone.

Record button not workig

there is several reasons for not work the record function, first of all make sure that the cassette is good and the safety tab is in record position, then check the playback of the cam with a recorded cassette, if this tests passed, check the rec button for loose or it is sticky, if so please use contact cleaner in the switch.
still the problem persists there should be problem in the circuit board. open total camera put it in record mode then test the wave shapes in the record paths up to the video head

Tape playback on Magnavox MWR20V6

When was the last time you ran the "head cleaning" tape in the machine? As tape collects dust and dirt - it gets deposited on the recording and playback heads. This ruins playback and recording quality. Also, since tape is magnetic - they tend to magnetize the heads, too (just like reel to reel, 8 track & cassette player / recorders). Demagnetizing them will help too. Here are links to both products:

Will not record conversation on cassett

Gets some rubbing alcohol and a some Q-Tips, clean all rollers, spindles, and playback record head, plus the erase head and allow several minutes to dry. If there is no improvement! the erase head is bad or the record section of the main head is faulty.

"Remove the cassette"

I only got the problem when the tape was bad. Usually the ribbon got folded, or was very wrinkly looking. Eventually I found out the drive was bad, and had to have it replaced.

I have a blue screen during playback mode on my Sony DCR-HC32. I am not able to see anything I recorded. What should I do?

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if a blue screen is displayed when attempting to playback video from the camcorder.
  1. Stop the tape.
  2. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  3. Play the tape.
  4. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  5. Clean the video heads of the camcorder using a dry head cleaning cassette.IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions for use provided with the head cleaning cassette. It may be necessary to use the head cleaning cassette more than once per session.
  6. Reinsert the tape into the camcorder.
  7. Play the tape.
  8. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  9. Insert a different tape with video footage into the camcorder.
  10. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.

MX2, it displays the following: "remove the cassette" or eject. I thought it was a condensation problem but all attempts failed, please help me.

On Canon camcorders, "remove the tape" error is due to no data reading by video head. You may have clogged heads or somewhere along the area. Initially, I would try to insert good clean "video head cleaning tape" and run for about 7 seconds and see if that resolve the symptom. If it persists, it need a help from a technician. Good Luck. Emerson DVd with Video Cassette Recorder EWR20V5

Try using 8x and lower DVDs and -R ones; try cleaning with CD cleaning disk and then try recording a few min again. If that doesn't help try unplugging and waiting about 30min then put in disk that was previously recorded and go to last item and play it to end (if 2hr long skip to last skip and then play until it finishes) - now try just recording a few min using the manual DVD record button and see if error comes up again - usually this unplugging somehow resets everything. Hope this helps ya'll.
