Your belt is stretched out so it just stops when the carpet resists it. Get a new belt made for your particular machine and you should be back up and running

The beater bar on the dc51 will not work what do I do

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

If you're having trouble with your DC51 vacuums brush roll here are a few things to check for to resolve the issue.

Be sure that your Dyson DC51 is reclined and not in the upright position when testing the brush roll and if you have the option set the vacuum to 'Carpets' and not 'Hard Floors'

Look for noticeable debris stuck in the brush roll such as hair, or strands of carpet fibers. Remove these blockages with a razor or scissor.

Lastly, apply WD40 to the bearings of the vacuum to help against any resistance the brush roll may be experiencing. When a brush roll hasn't been replaced after usage, the bristles get worn and

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Why does The beater bar on my hoover continue to run in the upright position?

Hi there! Some vacuums do not come with the feature that automatically shuts the brushes off when in the upright position.. If your unit is like this, be sure to put the vacuum on the highest setting when using the hose. Also, because the brush-roll continues to spin, avoid tipping cleaner or setting it on furniture, fringed area rugs, or carpeted stairs during tool use. Hope this was helpful!

Why beter bar dosent spin while in the vaccum mode only in up right position ?

Hello! The air pressure from the motor is most likely spinning the brushes in the upright position. This vacuum has a brush-roll on/off pedal located on the left side of the cleaner. To activate the brushes, power the vacuum on, recline the handle and then press the brush-roll on/off pedal. The brushes should begin to spin. If they do not the belt may need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

I have model#UD40350 total pet compact. The lower vacuum brushes don.t turn.

Hi! It sounds like you have a broken or stretched belt. The belt controls the brush roll. If you are using the vacuum on carpet, you need the brushes to spin to agitate the carpet fibers. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to replace your belt. I have also included a link to the instruction manual if needed.

1. Lay cleaner flat and flip to expose nozzle base. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
2. Lift and remove brush roll and dispose of old belt if you see one.
3. Slide belt (style 19) onto motor shaft.
4. Place new belt on area of brush roll without bristles.
5. With new belt in place, pull and slide brush roll into nozzle making sure that the brush roll end caps are in the correct orientation.
6. Replace all screws to replace nozzle guard.

My vacuum doesn't have any suction from the floor, only from the handheld attachments. I've cleaned all of the filters with no luck. Any suggestions?

With the vacuum plugged in and running, make sure the brush is spinning and that the brushes on it and long enough that they brush against your hand (or in real terms your carpet). If it is not spinning, replace the brush roll. This will also drastically increase the cleaning ability of it since the new roll will spin faster and the longer brushes will agitate your carpet better.

How is the V-belt tension adjusted (Hoover Model U6439-900)or how do I know if the tension is correct? There seems to be a lot of "play" in the belt and I'm wondering if that is the reason the brush roll...

The V-Belt is not adjustable. There are two ways the belt has no tension: (1) when the handle is upright, a mechanical lever takes the drive tension off the belt, and (2) the brush roll lever setting you described. The upper handle would have to be in the floor cleaning position to check the belt, not in the storage position.

Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled V Belt

when you released the end to slide the new belt on it allows the tension roller to slide into the wrong position. Remove the top so that you can see the roller, at the left side of the roller mechanism there is a screw, loosen it enough to allow the roller to return to the correct position.
good luck
