Briggs & Stratton 135212/0129 - Homelite HL2500

I have a Briggs & Stratton 135212/0129 engine on a Homelite HL2500 generator. I have no idea where to start with the various settings. After monkeying with it for 2 hours I managed to get it to idle consistently. I let it run for about 20 minutes but it was not turning enough RPM to produce any power. When I try adjusting the RPM with the fixed throttle adjustment it dies when I increase the RPM. What is the initial setting for the ''non-adjustable'' idle screw? What is the initial setting for the throttle linkage? What is the run position for the throttle linkage? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is not the choke. The manual choke is in the run position and works properly.

The choke should be in the off position when running. YOU put the choke on to start it then when it starts u turn it off. If the choke is on the engine will die when reving

Usually the cause of slightly low voltage like this is that the engine is not running at full operating RPM. Find the high speed adjusting screw on the govenor linkage and adjust the engine RPM until the output is 220V - 240V

I have a Craftsman Snow Blower with a Briggs & Stratton Engine. I had the same problem. I searched online and read a little bit about this run and stop problem. One solution was to put something over a piece of metal that separates the hot engine part from the other part of the other side of the engine. I used a piece of heat resistant cloth from Lowes in the plumping area where the torches are. It fit and worked. Engine keeps running. I ran it for over an hour last spring prior to storing it.

Neighbor has a Briggs & Stratton Elite Series 5550 generator. How do you remove the generator from the engine. Need to repair oil capacity switch inside.

Hello; The Briggs engine front case is shaped to accommodate the internal mounting of the Alternator section. A service manual for this model would be very helpful. I believe you need to dismantle the back of the Alternator where the outlets are and then the outer case with the stator windings in it. This will leave the rotor ( the long shaft with windings on it ) which will be attached to the output shaft of the engine by some coupling device the you must dismantle. John

Hi b_fesperman,

Here is Briggs&Stratton's webpage with the oil specs for their engines: http://www.briggsandstratton.com/engines/support/frequently-asked-questions/Engine%20Oil%20Recommendations/

Copy and paste the entire address into your browser and the information will open for you. Note that synthetic 5W30 can be used in all temps.

Hope this helps. If it does, please place a vote for me. Thanks,
