Question about Dell Dimension 5100 (D51L1) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Computer problem My dad is having a problem with his computer.  Whenever he turns it on the computer it appears that everything has been disabled.  He worked with it and finally fixed it by going to the control panel and going to network connections and clicked on enable.  This fixed everything and the next day it did the same thing.  Does anyone know why it keeps doing this?  It is an old computer but would that have anything to do with it disabling itself?

Ok, so I used to have a CTX monitor and I wanted to get a better monitor so what I did was I got a hp w2007 monitor and everything is hooked up correctly the wires are new and my computer fairly new. So...

The W2007 monitor is a fairly old monitor so the capacitors in the internal power supply maybe bad. Since your dad repairs computers I'm thinking he could show you how to replace the capacitors. I have a W2207 monitor that worked well once it activated and turned on but that could take up to 2 hours. I replaced 10 capacitors in the power supply with a kit I purchased off eBay for $13 which included shipping. My monitor functions well once again. You might also try joining forum. You can post your monitor problem once your are a member, also several people have posted monitor problems and solutions there. I think you can access the power supply from the rear on the W2007. IF you have to remove the front bezel to gain access use only your fingers to pull it off. You are going to be lifting from the inside bezel edges which rests against the display panel so that is why you want to use only your fingers to apply lifting pressure. Start working the bezel off by lifting near the center of the top or bottom edges, these should be the longest edges. Don't try to go for it all at once as the plastic may break, just work it off starting from the center and working out. Eventually one of the retaining tabs will release and it gets easier after that.

Try and fit a discrete sound card and disable the onboard sound in the bios. Sometimes a chip will fail and quite frankly it is cheaper to buy a PCI sound card rather than a new motherboard.

Video & movie saving problems on a few users

Hi, It is possible that certain computer privileges are not allowed to you as a 2nd user and all are allowed in your dad's account (presumably as Administrator). With your dad's permission and agreement, set up your account also as an administrator. Hope this works for you and should you need further information, pls post again. Good luck and kind regards.
