Trust me ,you do not want to replace that part / motor or laser. The adjustment procedure after replacement is a nightmare for even a good Technician.Buy a new one.

My Sony DVP-CX995V quit playing DVD's. I was listening to a CD, stoped it, went to menu, picked a DVD and bow it say's " Cannot Read Disc " On ALL of My DVD's. All CD's & DVD's are storebought. I've had...

does the spindle motor even try and spin the disk? Pop the top (8 screws) and watch the loader grab a disk and place into transport. The disc should immediantly start to spin and the little laser should scoot back and forth looking for something. If the disc never spins but the laser is moving, you may have a bad motor, or a bad pickup (transport mechanism includes motor and laser pickup). A replacement for this model is about $125 but you can get the same part out of a cheap DVP-S360 for about $20 on ebay. Just make sure you ask if it works before you buy it on BOTH CD and DVD as its 2 different lasers in that part.

After loading I get either No disk or Wrong disk. Very rarely display works, mostly it keeps spinning with loading on. I tried DVDs, CDs. Same. Cleaning laser did not help. Thanks for assistance....

You haven't specified nothing about the model number or brand name of you player. Yet i posts this solution, as a common fault symptom. From your description, I assumes that either Laser Picku Unit or Sled motor is faulty. Sled motor is one that spins the disc inside the player. Just open your players outer cover, insert a disc and see whether it spins as it loaded or not. If not replace the sled motor. If it spins, and the Laser Pickup Unit attempts to read the disc from its inside edge to outer, and fails to read the lead-in and lead-out data from disc, laser assembly is faulty and should be replaced with an idetical one both in type and number. In some cases, the strip wire that connects the laser unit to main board may get braked connection prints inside it, which cammot be detected easly. First of all replace this strip wire, and see the effect if disc spins as i indicated earlier. If you wants furthermore assistance, give me a mail, and indicate your need, as I may forget about the solution which I posts to you. OK.

We have a DVP FX 875 and the disc spins but it has just stopped playing/reading the disc - any disc! Is this fixable?

Yes, it is fixable, replace optical laser block of DVP-FX875 to solve its issue.
Let me know if you need part number of optical laser block or contact local tv repair shop for replacement.

I need to view the parts manual. The disc loads the motor turns but the disc does not spin. Is there a clutch so the disc can run free. What is the part number? Where can I buy it?

The motor isn't necessarily faulty. It could be a fault in the circuit board, or even the laser not reading the disk, so the player doesn't know it should be spinning the disk.

If you spin the disk it will spin and play but it will not pick it up normally. It just clicks as the laser moves on the tracks.

This sounds like there is a dead spot in the spindle motor. This is not a replaceable part in your model. You will need to replace the optics assembly. This can be ordered using part number:

Dvd not spinning properly

I had the exact same problem.

There was a bad batch of spindle motors (why they didn't use brushless is any body's guess). I replaced mine and it is quite easy. I even soldered in the single-DVD player's (same basic model number, just not multi-disk) motor because I couldn't find the right part for the multi-disk model (or the single was cheaper, I forget). That was years ago and it still works great today (I didn't like the lack of features on a cheap replacement player).

I'm guessing that you suspect the laser is dirty because it's having a hard time reading (or gives you the C;13;00 error).... It's not. The motor that spins the disc has defective brushes (a VERRRRRYYYY common Sony problem). They only sell the motor as part of the laser assembly for about $80. :( sorry!

Won't play any media types

The unit probably needs a spin motor. It apppears sony got the lowest bid from Alps ON their spin motors. It needs to work flawlessly in order for the laser and the A/D converter to process digital information. The spin motor itself is relatively cheap. It is the labor that is involved in replacing it that is the real issue. In a multiple disc unit there are timing issues, which sometime can be challenging. In this particular case it would probably be cheaper to replace the unit than to take it to a local service center and get an estimate for $20-40 and tne be told that the unit cost $200 dollars to be repaired. Scrivitron Take the estimate charge and apply it toward the purchase of a new unit. Scrivitron
