Question about Pentax Cameras

Pentax k10d won't produce accurate prints. Prints look muddy

Pentax k10d

I have problems printing what I see on my monitor screen, or in my camera screen. I have calibrated my computer monitor, and I have tried 3 different printers.
It doesn't happen all the time.

Could this be a camera problem?

Hi It's not likely to be a camera problem, in fact it's highly unlikely.
The big issue with printing colour is (as you've found) matching what you see on your monitor to what comes out on the paper. If you are serious about printing then you need to profile your system. I'm guessing that when you say you calibrated your monitor you just did a simple grey point adjustment to set the gamma. That's all very well but the printer is a completely separate item. It doesn't know that you adjusted the grey point and so it carries on as before (nor is there any way of it knowing). Your printer has to be set up as well - and it has to be set for whatever ink and paper combination you are using - and it will be different for each different type of paper.
If you look in the small ads in the more serious photo mags you should find adverts for companies who will provide you with profiling services.
There is a system called 'Colorsync' which is supposed to automatically do this for you. It works for some but not for others.

Why is the colour in my photographs not printing as they are in my laptop I have added new inks and cleaned the printing heads

Anonymous, there's a whole science of "color management" that you've invoked. First, what you're seeing is truly caused by lack of "calibration" in any stage of your workflow.
Your camera takes pictures, and whatever colors it sees are what it sees.
Your monitor shows you colors, but there's no standard calibration involved.
Your printer prints colors, but it too isn't calibrated to any standard.\

Assume for a minute that your monitor is set up to be a little too dark. You edit the pictures, and lighten them up so they look ok on screen. Now, when you print the picture, it's too light.

I've had similar issues, and have ended up purchasing a monitor calibration tool (Color Munki Smile) to calibrate my monitor, software "Profile Prism" to calibrate my printer, and now the prints I get look almost exactly like what I see on screen...

Canon pro 9000 printing not printing vibrant colors

I've had 5 Pro9000 & Pro9000 II's so far. Mechanically sound and fairly heavy duty. Mostly by default they print muddy or muted, with unsatisfactory reds and yellows. The default settings usually suck. I have had to develop my own driver settings and save them to printer profiles for individual situations. There is a lot of control in the driver settings and I recommend making your own color charts for reference, displaying the settings on each page. I also recommend regular nozzle checks and calibration. Avoid cleaning via the driver utility as this wastes a lot of ink, which is all deposited on the bottom of your printer and eventually has to be dealt with. Instead, remove and soak the head. Completely dry before reinstalling.

Scanning is not producing accurate colors for all colors. For example, Halloween shade of orange scans as pure yellow and brown comes out quite pink. Tried shutting the machine down and restarting much...

You'll need to calibrate your printer in order for the prints to come out with the correct color. In addition to this, if you're printing from .pdfs, you can set Acrobat to "print as image", this also helps in correcting the colors as they appear on your monitor, although this is NOT as accurate in correcting color as the "calibration" part.

Hope this helps. :)

Muddy prints

I have the R2400 and the photo prints look muddy. I have tried the same picture on another printer and the colors are vibrant. Why the muddy pictures on such a nice printer?

Problem printing photos accurately.

I fixed the problem by eliminating possibilities. The problem is with the default setting on iPhoto which I use to edit photos before copying to a USB then printing. I need to change the default setting constraint to 4x6. The problem is not with the camera. Camera is great! Thanks.

Photo prints are very dark and muddy

Hey,

I also have this problem. I even have prints that were made when I first got the printer about 2 years ago, which looked great then and now, and the EXACT same picture from the same program prints incredibly (unusably) dark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you put a memory card in the camera?
My camera did this today, and I resolved it by putting a memory card in, but even when one has been out before it still turned on, so I'm not sure that is the resolution. Did you ever find out what was causing it?
