Air conditioner shuts off early.

Brand new thermostat. In the heat of the day of South Florida, the air conditioner turns off before reaching the desired temperature. The thermostat is asking for the AC to be on, but it remains off for about 15 minutes. Then it will come on for 15 minutes, off for 15, on for 15 and so on until the evening hours where it will run longer and eventually catch up to the desired temp. Each time the AC turns off, the thermostat is asking for the AC to be on. Temp difference is at least 5 degrees. Tried numerous thermostats, same problem. Had two different guys look at my ac and they said it was ok.

Hi, thermostats is not problem , it's asking for cooling when it should, it's your condensing unit outside, if mechanics said, system is o/k. then it's location of condensing unit, check location of your condensing unit, in relation to direct sunlight, condensing unit best location is always a cool place, preferable away from direct sunlight, check to see, when unit is doing that, if it's expose to direct sunlight, that could be your problem, direct sunlight for long periods could cause the high pressure & temp. controls malfunction. or maybe system is not fully charge with freon, double check freon charge. if direct sunlight is your problem, build a shade or change location of condensing unit, good luck.

Not sure about your particular make and model, but air conditioners are designed to work with a thermostat to control the functions. A properly functioning thermostat will stop the compressor when the set space temperature is satisfied. When the space temperature falls below (heating) the set temperature, the thermostat should turn it back on. In the event of power failure, an electronic thermostat probably will not operate at the previous set temperature when power is restored, but maybe at a higher temperature (but will work).

Will you be able to give an easy index Ton/SQF for A/C capacity to be installed in South Florida? Thansks.

I have a couple of sites I can share with you. These are quick, easy, basic calculators to give you a general idea. Because of the conditions in South Florida - High Temperatures & High Humidity, you can expect better results from a professional analysis as proper sizing is critical for satisfactory operation.

This is for whole house air conditioning sizing:

This is for a room air conditioner:

I hope you find this information helpful.
Good Luck! :-)

When the thermostat calls for heat it should run until the room reaches the temperature setting then shut off. Is the blower motor running and can you feel air coming out of the vents? It sounds like the blower is either not running or putting out enough air to keep the furnace heating. The blower moves the heat from the heat exchanger to the room, if it can't remove enough heat from the heat exchanger there is a limit switch that will shut the burner off if it gets to hot and that's what it sounds like is happening.

Heat pump works in emergency heat, but not in auxiliary heat

I set the thermostat for 70 degrees. It comes on always in auxillary heat and does not shut off when it reaches 70 degrees. It is a heat pump, I am assuming, it might be the thermostat? But when the air conditioner is on, it turns off when it reaches it's temperature.
