The first thing to check is the door switch. The switch is located so when the door is closed it contacts the switch button and shoves it up to close the switch. You can press the button with your finger and the drum light should go off. The dryer will not start when the switch is open as a safety feature. I have had to change this switch a couple of times over the years. It is not a difficult thing for a handy person to replace, Hope you find this useful. Good luck.

Is the dryer electrical circuit energized? If so, is the motor getting power when the start buttonm is pushed? The problem could be the start switch itself, might be bad.

Screaming sound when dryer is on

Hi, W/D here.
Screaming dryers can usually be traced to the drum support roller and the roller shaft. Once the screaming has commenced, both parts usually are damaged beyond reuse. Check this link; it will give you a good idea of what you need, and what to look for. You can scroll over the diagram to view the parts and assembly instructions. A lot of information, if you need it. It will be best to use tha diagrams as a disassembly guide, and confirm that the roller and roller shaft is the issue. Since you're already down to the rollers, it would be wisest to change them both at the same time, if this is the issue.

Screaming Maytag dryer

You're probably correct that it's bearings/bushings.

Take the front off by first popping the top. Lubricate all moving parts (mostly bushings/rollers/pulleys on shafts) including the motor shaft/bearings.

Don't get oil in belt path (like on a pulley where the belt will ride) or on the belt.

This should solve the problem.

Use something akin to 3-IN-1 Machine Oil.

My dryer

I have a WTL5400 screaming at me, so my Husband has taken the side and back panels off to investigate, and the noise was made by the air outlet plastic fan which spins when the tumble dryer is turning, this plastic fan thing was wibbly wobbly and the nut wouldn't tighten up. He has put in a couple of different size washers and tighten up the nut and hey presto no noise.
