I recommend to buy a new one, induction cooktop prices have come down a lot and there are good ones available for about $1000. FOr me, the only problem with putting a new one in was the hole in the countertop was too small for the new cooktop (Viking has a smaller hole requirement than most other cooktops). So be sure to measure the hole in the countertop before you buy a new one so you can buy one that fits.

Wear gloves, put all items in a garbage bag. Put outside and spray a can of easy-off oven cleaner on all parts. Seal bag and let sit for 24 hrs. They should come out looking new after you rinse them off. After you wash them off, put them in a 300* preheated oven for about 30 min to ensure they are dry.
Service came out and said just unplug the cooktop and plug it back in. It won't fix it but it will work for.... beats paying 100's of dollars. I wish I knew this to save 85 $. I am going to replace it if this happens alot but until then I going to give it a try for a few times.
Viking has a major problem with this, read other posts. the service guy said alot less problems with wolf and thermador. I will never buy viking again, my cooktop is 2 yrs old with just general household use
Have 2 Thermador ovens, SMW272 and SC302. Both have display failure. Just repaired one with replacement display. It did not require a new control unit or harness. Have not opened up second unit yet as display is still dimly/slightly visible.
Called Thermador and received no offer of replacement parts or service. Numerous other web reports of similar failures. My neighbor has 2 dead ovens also unfixed because of outrageous repair estimates ($600 each). Do not recommend this brand.
Full kit including display, control, and harness ordered on Ebay for $170.
It sounds as though you have soem nice, well sealed cabinets and a good installation on your cooktop. When you open the drawer. it creates a momentary vacuum that sucks the oxygen away from the cooktop, as the bottom of these are not airtight. The only thing you can do is to open the drawer more slowly or have a vent of some sort installed in the back of the cabinet to let air in as you open the drawers, so it does not suck it from the top. There really isnt anythig wrong per say, it something that happens with most gas cooktops with drawers/ doors below them. Hope this is helpful.
