Connect external Display and check if working.
Circle through main display > Main dsply + extnl Dsply > external Dsply using the appropriate Fn key combination (Fn+F4 on my HP).
If only external dsply is working check every connection you possibly affected or bring to a repair shop.

Asus U52F. Was working fine. I just turned it on and the monitor is blank.

maybe you installed a software or driver that is incompactable with your laptop.
All you have to do now is to run the pc in safe mode and restore to the earlier state.
If the problem still exit then contact your technical office for further diagonisis of your laptop

Hello today I had an white vertical line in the center of my PC screen Gateway E2500s series would not shut down from the tower so IV turned it off with the surge and waited a few them turned it back on...

You mention in your post to branded laptops. You can try to check if the problem is from the LCD or from the Video card. Connect your laptop to an external monitor and check if the white vertical line appears, if yes replace motherboard if video card is integrated, if expansion then replace video card alone. If no lines from the external monitor then laptop LCD has the problem.

My laptop turns on, but there's nothing on the screen. It's black.

It will either be your motherboard or LCD. The first thing you want to do it hookup an external monitor to your laptop and then power it on. If you get normal video on your external monitor then it is an issue with your LCD that can either be the cable that connects the LCD to the mother board or the LCD itself.

If you get no video at all on the laptop or the 2nd monitor then it is a problem with your motherboard and you will need to have that replaced. Be sure to test for video on the 2nd monitor with the laptop closed and then opened. Also, make sure you press the function keys on the keyboard to switch displays. It would be no fun to think the mother board was bad when it was really the LCD and you just forgot to enable the external port :)

Good luck!

I had service guys update the service packs from microsoft onto my laptop and check forr viruses. After the session, I found that although the laptop works fine, an essential feature was gone- I can't hook...

Restore back your system at the time its not updated with service pack.
  • To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Using System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.
  • If you want to undo an earlier restoration, click Restore my computer to an earlier time in the Welcome to System Restore screen, and then select the relevant restore operation restore point listed in the System Restore Wizard.
Hope this restoration will put it back again your system at the time its works.

Good luck!
