Question about Dishwashers

3 Answers

We have started experiencing a problem with our Kenmore Elite 655.15982 dishwasher. Each time we close the door, NoHeatDry lid would go on immediately. It would stay as is of would go flashing. If you touch any button, LockOn lid would go on. Then no other buttons would respond. And often both NoHeatDry and LockOn indicators would be flashing... We tried turning machine for an extended time on the fuse, etc. At times it would work for some time and then cycle get stuck again at the same problem so that we could not even drain the water. But lately, the problem really persisted to the point the we cant even turn it on... Any suggestions? Is there any sequence to try reset the control pannel?

Thanks. I tried as suggested but the heater wont operate/glow. But I am not sure why conceptually it should be the case given the front panel indication says "NoHeat Dry", so it should not operate anyway in such mode, no? Furthermore, whichever button I press it indicates it is locked...

Can you suggest a sequence to reset the controls for this model?

    Thanks!

    Ned, thanks for advice! :)

Actually, I should have mentioned we of course had tired the un-lock but it did not work so I was hoping based on reading of similar experiences there must be some reset sequence. The problem is all the references did not apply to the same model...

I actually was able to detach the panel myself to check its model so I could order and replace it myself. But I was still not sure if that was a mechanical problem (panel) or electrical (the brain/processor).

You sound quite certain that it would be the former. Is it so? What are the chances that electronics could be screwed?

Perhaps I should proceed with ordering the panel myself (I hope it is possible -- I did not investigate yet) and replacing it...

These errors are due to a faulty control board and needs to be replaced. If its still underranty get it fixed before it expires as it is a costly repair to replace.

Check to see if the (control lock) is enabled. If it is, then it can be disabled by pressing and holding the (no heat dry) button for 4 seconds. The (lock on) light will then turn off. This may not be the problem but it's worth checking. Your symptoms point to a stuck key or failed control console keypad. A failed electronic control board could also cause this problem. What I would do is contact a service technician from craigslist.com under the services (skilled) section because they are the ones that charge a reasonable amount. Don't call Sears because they often would have to order the part and then you're stuck for 2 weeks. Good luck and I hope you resolve the problem soon :)

You need to check the heating element if it is heating up. You can do this by opening the door and pressing the switch at the door to make it run. Observe if the heating element would heat up. It would show up as a red glow. If it is not giving off heat you need to check out the fuse for the thermal disk if it has gone out. You may also want to check out the heater relay. Have the relay of the heater and the motor swapped and see if the heating element would heat up. It might be a bad relay. If it still does not heat up after the swap you may want to check if the switch on the door is working or the heating element may need replacing.
