I've spent hours on the phone with RIM tech support and they have gotten me nowhere. I've got a PC that whenever you try and start the desktop manager it just hangs at connecting to e-mail system. If you start it without a profile it will start fine. I've done multiple clean uninstalls, deleted and recreated the profile multiple times, and even reinstalled office. (The desktop manager would start without office installed.)
I'm running Office 2003 with an Exchange 2003 mailbox. The desktop manager is version 3.6 SP2. The last place RIM support left me was to call Microsoft because it wasn't an issue with their software. I'm guessing that it's something with the MAPI system.
I have a Blackberry 7750 (color screen) with the Desktop Manager installed on a PC running Windows 2K Pro and Office XP. I am also using Outlook as my e-mail client and it seems to be working fine. One thing that is easy to try, if you haven't already, is making certain that all appropriate service packs have been installed for your OS AND Office. Hope this helps.

If I could I would but it's a policy that I can't change. We have many other people using Blackberries (myself included) that have a very similar setup to the one I've described below. I believe the problem has something to do with the mapi system on his pc.
