Your fuel low fuel high adj on carb arent set right. one is for idle and low running while other is for high rev. Getting these set just right is very tricky and takes some time doing it to become good,Im starting you off on a crash course,Im not gauranteeing anything but here it goes. LOcate the two fuel adj. screws on carb,if they have plastic caps on top remove them with needle nose pliers so the screws themselves are exposed. Next,I want you to take a screw driver and turn both in all the way till they stop. Now take and turn each one out counter clockwise three full revolutions. Now start it to see if theres any improvement. (Note: further adj. may be required you may have to consult an expert to have it be done for you if you cant get it).

Is this an older machine ? If so try finding the points its usualy on the front lower part of the engine behind the cover, if you see that then it needs its condensor replaced, lookes like a round battery.

If this is newer or you can also try changing the spark plug sometimes they heat up and fail.

Husqvarna weed eater starts , but blows alot of smoke & then stalls out

Rod, Carb. may need adjusted, try loosening gas cap and start to see if cap vent plugged, there is a in tank fuel filter that you could fish out and remove to see if it is plugged. If still not running remove muffler and clean spark arrester screen, if screen plugged the trimmer will do this.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Weed Eater PE550...What is the proper adjustment turns for the carburetor to be set? The screw got out of adjustment. I've cleaned the filter and readjusted the spark plug gap to 0.25.

Soft seat the set screw and back out 1 1/2 turns. This is the standard to start adjustments from. Set the low speed one first, then the high. With it running and warm, couple of minutes, turn in until starts to run rough, then turn out til is starts to run rough, then set in the middle of those two points. Go to the other and repeat procedure.

I have a John Deere 2E leaf blower. Lately it has been hard to start but runs fine once it is up and running. Would it help to adjust the H or L screws on the carb?

The H (High Speed) and L (low Speed) should not typically need adjustment. What happens is the diaphragms get stiff and do not operate efficiently. If the unit is over 5 years old and/or the fuel is not completely drained with the unit run dry at the end of the fall, then I would suggest replacing the diaphragms within the carburetor. This along with spark plug change, air filter cleaning and a check of the muffler to insure it is not clogged is considered a basic tune-up.
