Question about Video Cameras

1 Answer

I got a Sony HandyCam FFCCD-FX330 camera from a friend, with its battery, AC adapter, and cables. It powers on and appears to record to the tape, however nothing shows on the viewpiece. All I can see in the view piece is a white screen. Occasionally it flickers, as if something was getting through, but most of the time it stays white. It does not show what's being "seen" by the lens, and does not show anything in playback mode. Does anybody else have this type of camera? Do you know what's wrong with it?

In response to tommya300: The lens cap is off the lens. I double checked it first thing off when I noticed the problem. Do you think it is just dead, or is there an easier solution?

    In response to tommya300:
The tape is feeding, I see the wheels turning inside the holding area. There doesn't appear to be an edit switch. There are play, pause, stop, rewind, and fast-forward buttons, but those are only for playback. Switching to playback doesn't help either, the screen still stays white.
The backlight button doesn't help, and all the switches seem to be in the right positions. There's one for the camera setting (off, camera, or playback) and one for the record setting (lock or standby). I made sure to turn each of them on and still just a white screen on the view point.

I took a look inside at the circuit to the CCD. The cables appear to be intact. I removed and replaced them just to make sure. It didn't fix my problem.
So you're thinking a bad circuit?

Was ther camera ever taken appart? There are only 2 more things I can think of where the ribbon cable for the ccd is not in place correctly. the other bad CCD or circuit.

Even if you have trouble taping you should see an image just in the standby mode...

Sounds like the power cable to the ccd is dislodged

At wost case the CCD circuitry.

Is there a fade button under the front nose or somewhere on the camera maybe that can be stuck. I can not think if anything try a different tape...

Did you try playing the tape after videoing use it in a different play back machine

Maybe the viewer wires got messed up from moving or adjusting it for viewing something chaffing the insolation where it is bent comming out of the viewer inside

Sony 700X digital handycam

solution 1: Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times. solution 2: Turn off the camcorder. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter. Turn on the camcorder. If the error message appears, service may be required. If your camcorder still shows the same error code, then you'll have to send in your camcorder for service additional info that might help: According to the manual, the error code C:31:xx:xx means an error that >the owner can fix by himself has occured and that by taking out the >cassette and replacing it or by disconnecting the battery pack and >fixing it back should solve the problem. Error "23" means: "S reel emergency during normal rotation", i.e. the problem is with the tape deck mechanism and specifically the supply reel.

My Sony Handycam DCR-HC26 started giving me C:31:23 error ''Reinsert the cassette'' when I try to record on a new Sony tape. I am however able play back a previously recorded Sony tape.

the error c:31:23 error pertains to one of the reel (part that turns the tape) is malfunctioning. although you can play back videos, you would definitely have issue w/ recording, rewinding or fast forwarding the tape.what you can do is to turn the camcorder off.remove the battery and ac adapter for at least a minute.insert the battery or reconnect the adapter.you can also try pressing the reset button (located near the top of the speaker, on the panel where lcd screen goes to).make sure cam is on when you do that.if still your getting this problem, service would be needed for your cam.hope this helps :)
