It wants what is called key 1 of the wep code. You are probably putting in the password you used for wep. Look at the router config and see what the actual wep key is.

Notebook acer 5534 windows 7 64 bit cannot connect using wireless netgear wgr614v7, the pc sees the network. Connects ok with ethernet.

Perhaps you have turned on MAC (physical) address filtering on your wireless router/access point? If so, you have to add the MAC address of your new wireless card to the allowed list.

Can connect a MAC to my home network

Yes you can connect a Mac to your home network either wirelessly or using an Ethernet connection. Click on Apple menu, select System Preferences, in the preferences window, click Network. In the left column, click on Ethernet or Airport (for wireless), then click the 'Assist Me' button. The Internet Assistant will step you through setting up a new network configuration or location.

I just bought a used powerbook g4 laptop. It worked great and I used it at work to connect wirelessly to the internet. I brought it home and cannot get it to connect to my wireless network. I have a belkin...

You could try changing the security. Some of the older laptops have trouble with the new WPA2 security. Use WEP and you should be OK if this is the problem. Good luck TT

Can't find mac address on my acer to connect to wireless network at work

i think the wireless at your work filter computers based on their MAC address as a security measure hence you are unable to connect..
to find your comp's MAC address follow this:
  • From the Start button select Run
  • In the box which appears type cmd and click OK
  • A new windows will appear - at the prompt type ipconfig /all
  • The MAC address will be referred to as the Physical Address and is made up of 12 characters e.g. 00-D1-AB-F2-G3-89
You will have a separate MAC address for your wireless card and your Ethernet card. Make sure you use the correct one

  • do ask the admin of your work wireless system to add your comp's MAC address so that you are able to connect..
am no expert but love to help out...hope it helps you...all the best!

    Hi,

Have you tried static IP addresses on the 2 new laptops even if DHCP is enabled?

Additionally, pls try with the WEP, WPA or MAC Filter off/disabled.

Alternately, on the 2 new units, pls try configuring the Wireless LAN Properties Advanced tab to use "ANY" or your SSID.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    Good luck and kind regards.

    Thank you for using FixYa.
