Bean hopper is full, machine starts to grind the coffee but right before it starts to pull the shot, it stops & says "add beans to hopper".

the add beans to hopper signal most likely is triggered by the machine not sensing enough load put on the grinder (hence it thinks its out of beans) , this most likely is set by the grind (fine/course ) id say the grind is set to an improper size and the automatic sensor is picking up on that
another thing is the coffee / if its way too moist and not dry enough then its also going to trip the sensor as well

The problem is when I use pre ground coffee beans. The water doesn't run through. It comes over the top and the grounds get in the coffee. I buy them that way because they mark them down half price. I

Hi,

There are whole coffee beans, and there are ground coffee beans, but there is no such thing as "pre-ground" coffee beans because you wouldn't want the beans to be ground AFTER making coffee.

If you have a problem using "pre-ground" beans, then STOP using pre-ground beans and grind them yourself.

I hope this helps.

Just bought a mazzer super jolly grinder, used it once, the grind was too coarse (#6), adjusted it to a finer grind ((3), and the next time i ran it it stopped grinding, the motor is on, the grinder turns,...

yes, you have to remove the beans inside because there is beans stuck between the burrs. after removing the beans, start doing the finest first before loading the hopper then after putting the beans test the grind as you go courser.

Brand new machine. coffee beans are loaded. when trying to make coffee the machine says the beans are empty. thanks

This machine doesn't like oily beans. Your best bet is to buy freshly roasted beans that are roasted to a FC or FC+. Viena, French and Italian roast beans won't work well. Also any beans that you buy at the grocery store will be quite old (often 3 months past roasting date) and they tend to be very oily on the outside.

If you have a coffee stirring stick or a chopstick, lift the cover of the bean hopper and stir the beans and sort of poke them down in the center - that's where the beans stick and can't drop down into the grinding burrs.

If you use oily beans you will need to stir every time or every other time you make a cup. Fresh roasted beans at a slightly lighter roast will work fine.

How many tablespoons of ground coffee are needed per cup of water in the Smart Brew coffee maker?

For ground coffee, use 1-1/2 (one and one-half) tablespoons of beans per 6 ounces of water.

For whole bean coffee, use two tablespoons of beans per 6 ounces of water.

Coffee strength is a very personal preference, so use these numbers as a guideline for middle-of-the-road coffee, and adjust to make the coffee that you like to drink.

Vac out the bean chamber, then remove the 2 or 3 screws and carefully lift the bean hopper off the machine, then continue cleaning the grinder, careful not to lose the gasket around the top of the grinder. When done reassemble and try to brew but do not add beans to hopper as yet. Until you are sure all the plastic pieces are out.
