Question about RCA DRC8295N DVD Recorder/VCR
This is sure a mechanical problem. Try some Lubricant on the motor.
Just take off the cover and the tray face plate and usually the interface plate ,being very careful not to pull on any strands in there.
You can then insert a Dvd and see if t it will start to spin when you close the tray. If not put a drop of some thin lubricant on the (Spinner?)and let it settle for a bit and spin the mechanism manually for a while.
If you open and shut the tray and start to manually turn it you should feel that it wants to turn by itself.
What finally worked for me was to put in a less useful dvd (due to the oil) and manually spin it after the laser engaged.
After a few drops and repeating this procedure, it might fix the problem.
If you are unable to open the tray, Power off the DVD. Plug in after 20 minutes. If still unable to open it, open the tray and manually eject the disc and follow the above procedure.
In case, if the problem still persists, more likely it's due to faulty Lense. You need to get it replaced.
You can try one more trick, if that works :-
2)put in a regular non-recordable dvd
3)Wait for it to recognize that dvd. Sometimes you need to try this a couple of times as you pray to the God of dvd burners to let your dvd burner work; all while the first 5 minutes of the season premiere of your favorite show goes by unrecorded.
4) Once this dvd is recognized, eject it, and put in your recordable DVD. If it recognizes it, don't touch anything, don't power-off the machine, start recording immediately.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Tips for a great answer:
Nov 24, 2012 | Audio Players & Recorders
Inspect and clean your disc Take a close look at the
bottom side of your game, movie, or music disc (the side without a label or
image). Are there scratches? Excessive scratches or smudges can prevent your
console from reading the disc. Clean your disc Hold the disc by
the edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces. Using a soft,
clean, slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward.
· Note Use ONLY water to
clean the disc.
Once the disc is clean, load the disc into your
console and see if the disc plays.
