Latest version of iMac with Apple keyboard and mouse.

  • rontredding Aug 03, 2009

Doesn't appear to be anything interfering with the mouse scroll button. Just doesn't want to scroll down, only up. Scroll button is set for 360 degree usability.

  • rontredding Aug 04, 2009

I've cleared up the #s pad problem. My iMac mouse still does not scroll down, only up and I still need a solution to the scroll button problem.

Have you tried cleaning the ball?

Turn mouse upside down. Get some cleaning fluid or alcohol and use a soft cloth dabbed with it and rub the ball allowing it to turn.

That should clean it.

In Mac, the Clear button on the keyboard is the "Number Lock" key. Press the Clear key once and try using the number pad. It that didn't do anything, you need to contact the manufacturer of the keyboard for repair.

By the way, are you using a power book? If yes, I could see that the touch pad is bad and needs repair.

For the scrolling, try to turn the mouse upside down and shake it a little bit. It might be a little chunk of something that is stuck there. Just experiment a little with the scroll wheel.

The numbers pad problem: Try going to system preferences - universal access - under the mouse tab. Make sure that Mouse Keys is set to "off"

Hi there,

Better to try check it first using a different mouse, to check if there was no problem on the mouse you use. Restart your computer and see if there was changes.

Hope this helps

The "Clear" button works like Num Lock. Unfortunately there is no visual feedback on the keyboard to let you know if it is selected or not.

As for the scroll button, I assume you are talking about the up and down arrow keys? If so, the issue may be that scoll lock has been turned on accidentally. Try hitting F15 once and see if that helps.

Hi,

Apple menu>system preferences>universal access>mouse. By accident I found this (mouse keys box) was clicked ON! This disables the keyboard almost completely. it is so remote from the other keyboard controls that it is not the obvious cause.

If problem still persists, let me know.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

This is a hardware problem. You can double check that the keyboard is enabled and that all drivers are downloaded for it.
Quite likely, disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard will fix this. If not you will have to replace the keyboard. In the meantime, have you tried an external keyboard?

On the computer keyboard by nextech is there suppose to be keyboard lights and if so how are they turned on

Hi
The usual lights for a keyoard are the 3 above the number pad. they will be labelled to correspond with the following keys:
- CAPS Lock
- NUMBER Lock
- SCROLL Lock
When they are pressed once the light will go on, meaning that function key is active. So if the CAPS Lock key was pressed and the light is on, then any letter key (A to Z) you press appear as a capital in documents. Press CAPS Lock again and the light goes out and the letter will type lower case.
The NUMBER LOCK is for the keypad to the right (not the number across the top and above the letters). This function ensures the numbers will appear instead of their alternate function, such cursor and Page UP/down, Home, and End.
SCROLL Lock is not used much, but it can be used in Excel to hold the current selection. For example, you want scroll about the sheet using the cursor keys, but want to keep the current cell selected. So with SROLL lock active, when you use the cursor key's, the sheet will move in the direction you want while leaving the selected cell selected. Try it and you'll see what I mean.
I hope this helps.

Scroll Lock on -- mystery

On the Logitech LX710 Lazer the Scroll Lock option is toggled by holding down the "Function" key and pressing the "Pause/Break" key. If you look at the P/B key you will see a little orange symbol of an arrow pointing down to remind you of this feature. This can be disabled in the Setpoint panel by selecting Keyboard and Keyboard Inactive Keys then place a check in Disable Scroll Lock so you may have to remove a check mark first.
