Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

AC will run fine for a while if it is very hot out, but compressor quits and will not restart. Wait several hours, and it works ok. When it is cool out(70's) compressor will not start at all. Help!

    Thanks Motor1258

The thermostat is wall mounted and appears fine. I suspect that the unit is not cycling through a defrost cycle, and freezing up. No help from Keystone RV's or dealers. Getting desperate!

I suspect faulty thermostat. Take a blow dryer,( not too close as to melt cover ) and aim it at thermostat when ac won't come on, and keep good heat on it for a couple of minutes just to see if that trips it on. If that doesn't work, drop filter cover off ceiling assy and look for thermostat probe which should be visible in area behind filter cover, and apply heat to that , and see if it comes back on. Keep me posted.

If it's freezing up, you should be able to see frost inside when you take your filter cover off and look at evaporator coils & fins. If this is a brand new unit, take entire cover off ceiling and get a good look at discharge side as well, especially if it's a ducted system, to make sure rubber roof or some other part(s) of the trailer is perhaps restricting flow of cold air to duct system. There also should be a freeze sensor button attached to coils, usually low on left side of coils area, and make sure those are attached to control board. By the way, for future reference, your better off to call Dometic, rather than manufacturer. Try, ( ) for all your contact numbers etc, and owner support.

Could be but before that check if settings are working. Set the freezer settings to coolest and see if cools. If ok, set to desired temp.

The a/c on my 2010 Mercury Milan quits blowing after about 2 hours of driving. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like the A/C clutch is no good and out of adjustment. You should goto your nerrest junkyard and get a used assembly take the clutch off then you learn how it comes off and install it on yours the save the pump for later use if needed. The clutch should only have a .010 air gap after install between th inner elctro magnet and the clutch plate it's self.

Ac intermittently quits working, just replaced condenser, put dye in system at mechanics- no leaks

Have an AC repair shop hook up a set of AC pressure gauges while this is happening to see what is going on. You could have a defective AC compressor or a low refrigerant charge in the system. And as to the hot weather causing it to act up that would be normal, the AC would cool fine the cooler the outside air is, problems like worn out compressors and low system refrigerant charge levels would only show there ugly head in hot weather conditions. Also make sure the cooling fans fo rthe AC and engine are working properly. Good luck with this.

GE PSS26LSRE refrigerator\r\nfan is running, compressor is hot, but not cooling, please help

Please shut off the fridge for about few hours and then restart the fridge. If you notice that there is still no cooling from the freezer then it for sure that your compressor is not pumping or that your gas is run out. If however the cooling has returned then you will have to make sure that your thermostat is fine, the auto deffrost timer is also working Ok. You must seek help if your are not familiar with the work of gas filling or checking for leaks in the system.Take an estimate and proceed. Hope I could help;Good day

Intertherm S3QA042K compressor won't restart

You probably need a hard-start kit. A hard-start kit connects to the run capacitor and provides a starting boost for your compressor. If you install a hard-start kit, monitor your a/c for a while because it is possible that the bearings in the compressor are going bad.

May need start capacitor and relay (called start kit) or some of the compressors have a thermal overload under the compressor cap. If it's a thermal overload, it has a bimetal disc and when it reaches a set temperature (hot) the disc will warp opening the compressor circuit and not allowing the compressor to come on till it has cooled down. if this is the case then the compressor is not getting enough refrigerant back to it to keep it cool or it's drawing high amps.

Coleman rv a/c

It is definitely with the compressor. It should more like you may have a weak winding in the compressor, you can a hard start capacitor (sp5 ) that will help the compressor on restart. Note that this is a last chance solution for a compressor.
