I'd be careful with any BullDog or Pushmatic breakers. They ceased manufacturing these years ago due to problems with the contactors inside the breaker being prone to arcing and sticking (becoming "welded" together). UL and other agencies deemed them unreliable and the company decided to cease production due to several problems with installations of their products and the growing safety concerns.

If you can get a replacement breaker, I would seriously consider replacing it when you can. Otherwise, keep an eye on it, since this might fail while in the "on" position and if the contacts continue to arc, (that's symptomatic of the buzzing sound you heard), it's possible that the contacts could become "welded" together and the breaker won't trip in an overloaded circuit condition and potentially cause damage to whatever is on that circuit up to and including a situation for having a fire potential.

There is a company that is making replacement breakers under the same tradename and they are using different manufacturing techniques so as to not have the types of problems the original design could cause. Usually you can find them at most electrical supply houses and at True Value stores, depending where in the country you're located.

Hope you found this helpful and best regards!

Not necessarily, if the buzzing stopped then its probably ok. When a circuit goes bad, either they fail to trip open, or will not reset to the on position

I have three bulldog pushmatic circuit breakers that will not push back in? Are they gone or can they be reset.

Either they are bad, or are "tripping" If they won't push in when removed, then they are bad. Not unusual. You can still buy them. Look online or Box stores

Pushmatic breaker keeps tripping everytime I hit

You have it shorted out somewhere along the line. If it is a light switch you are switching, what have you done lately to make this trip? Anything? You might have a bad breaker. You can check it by shutting off the power, pull the wire out of the tripping breaker, put it in another breaker, turn the power back on, switch the breaker on, then hit the switch and see what happens. If it snaps off, it is not the breaker, but the switch, the wires in the box, or the lights, or something along the line, you will have to check each one. New construction has made all lights and all receptacles separate, so if your house is old, you might be looking at receptacles too. Check anything plugged in to an outlet, make sure there is nothing shorting. Hope this helps.

Bulldog breaker dead. Reset button depressed, but would not reset to on position, button remained depressed inward

These breakers do fail. Sometimes you can get them to reset by repeatedly pushing the breaker, but you would probably only get lucky once. These breakers are still available as replacements, and are at big box stores. These breakers bolt in, however. You should only attempt to replace the breaker if you have a main breaker that you can open to remove voltage from the rest of the panel. Even in a 240V residential panel there is a serious arc fault flash potential. If you have any doubts about replacing it yourself, consult someone with experience.

Breaker wont push back in

it is still detecting an overload in the circuit. Take the black wire off the breaker and see if it will reset. If so then you will have to trace the wires down to find the short circuit. If it doesn't reset then the breaker is bad

My Mom (86) has a bulldog panel with an intermittent 15 amp breaker. How do I remove it?? I was afraid of putting a screwdriver in between it and the main verticle strip (buss bar) and prying it out after...

The pushmatics get sticky more than trip when they shouldn't. Are you sure your Mom isn't just overloading that circuit? If so, changing the breaker or even changing the panel won't help.
Some Bulldog panels have the main breaker separte to the side of the branch circuit breakers - under the meter. I think some of them are designed so that you can de-energize the bus by turning of two of the top breakers, but I'm not sure.
You definitely shouldn't do this live. Have a meter to make sure it's not live when you do it. It would be very easy for your screwdriver to touch the bus bar and the metal frame at the same time.
But, again, maybe the problem is too many things plugged in.

20 AMP Cutler Hammer CH GFI wont fit in the breaker box

It will fit, the extra bump out on the back makes it a bit harder to hook the back locking tab before you push it on the bussing. Also, make sure no wires are in the way obstructing the bump out since it hangs out further than the standard breakers. The most common problem is the bump out making it hard to hook the locking tab onto the outer rail. Make sure the breaker is in the off position, then try holding it more flat as you insert it keeping it close to the bussing. This will help keep the extra bump out from obstructing the locking tab from hooking the back rail. Once it's hooked on the back rail you can push it on the bussing like normal.

Looking for 2 15amp single pole pushmatic circuit breakers.

A Google search for "15 amp pushmatic" turned up several links. Here's one for a retailer with new ones and an eBay store with cheaper prices (maybe pullouts):

Did you also check the big-box stores like Home Depot or Lowe's or electric suppliers in your area?
