Re: opening the top of a wshing machine

You either have 2 screws in the front of the console or on the back of the console. remove these 2 screws and the console flips up. under that youll see 2 brass looking clips one on the right one on the left. remove thoughs clips. unplug the wire that are hooked into the top of washer. the whole cabnet tilts forward to be removed. look under cabnet youll see the switch

Can i jump out the lid switch on washing machine

It's not the best of ideas to jump the switch out because the machine will keep operating with the lid open. There were many terrible accidents with people reaching into a machine on spin cycle and twisting their arms off their bodies before that lid switch became a mandatory safety item. Children, and kats, are especially prone to accidents with a washing machine.

That having been said, there might be a few reasons you might wish to operate the machine with the lid open, like when washing pillows.. The easiest way to do that is to insert the end of a pocket comb onto the switch - it will press the switch down while the lid is open, and keep it "jumpered".

Keep kittise, kids and "civilians" away if you run it like that! It is dangerous as hell.

If the switch is problematic, and it is a top-loading machine, UNPLUG THE WASHING MACHINE, open the lid, reach into the machine and grasp the front of the opening. Give it a 1-2-3 and a firm snap upward, and the top of the entire machine will pop off, and give you access to the switch.

Is best to spend the twenty bucks or so for a new switch, especially now that you know how easy it is to access it. Please don't even think of jumpering it to save money: someday you might give the machine away or sell it, and the new owner will be at even greater risk of injury or death.

Don't think the hazards are overstated, please. Frigidaire used to have a top-loader that almost dried clothes with its spin-cycle of 2,500 RPM. When the lid was opened, it took about two seconds for it to brake to a dead stop, and many people were killed or maimed by reaching into the tub before it stopped. Arms snap off pretty easy with that kind of torque - be careful..

Why it doesn't spin

almost all washing machines have a special switch to turn off or don't let spin when door is open. If machine 'thinks' that door is open, won't spin. "" Danger, Will Roberson...Danger..."" If you don't know what U are doing, please get help. An open switch looks like door is open. The switch is INSIDE the body of washing machine, ON the door is a plastic piece that pushes the switch lever in. You have to place 'jumpers' across the contacts on switch, shorting switch and turning machine to spins cycle.

My Kenmore 22712 Top load will agitate, but when it switches to the spin cycle I get nothing. The motor wont run and the tub doesn't spin.

open the lid a lttle and close it down a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound when it closes you have a bad lid switch,or open the lid and stick a screw driver in the hole where the piece on the lid goes down into when the lid is closed, if it doesn't click and the machine doesn't run then the lid switch is bad.,they don't want the machine to run with the lid open when it goes into the spin cycle,if you send the full model number located beneath the lid when it's open on the back panel under the lid.let me know how you make out

Washer will not go into the spin cycle

If the machine runs through everything and just stops full of water at the spin cycle your lid switch is probably bad. Its either located under the lid when you open it on the right hand side, or under the control heading. If its there just open the lid and listen for a clicking sound when you open and close, if you don't hear that the switch is broke.

My washing machine will not spin or drain, only fill up with water

Couple things could be happening;

Scenario 1: Your motor is dead, or the electrical connections leading to it are chewed up and no longer send electricity to the motor. If you have a voltage tester, you should see if you are getting power to it.

Scenario 2: The safety switch that stops the motor from spinning when the lid is open is compromised.. This is possible, but less likely, as the motor would still spin in agitate mode..

Good luck!

do you mean the little prong that sticks into the lid switch to make the lid switch funtion so that it can spin you need to order the piece that he broke off on the lid or If he is mechanically inclined have him open the top find the lid switch connection and use a jumper wire from positon 1 to positon 3 on the lid switch wire connection this makes the unit run normally whether or not the lid is open or closed if he is mechanically inclined two phillips scews in back of unit to open the head

Drum won't spin. Do you think it's a broken belt? The water DOES go out. Thanks, Nancy

hmmm... washing machines usually do not have belts. they have very expensive transmissions...

could be as easy as the lid switch thinking the top lid is open. they have an interlock so it will not spin with the lid open. The switches are on the inside so you have to take the top off to access it.

Maytag wshing machine just stopped working, won't turn back on

Open the top console panel to access the spin/start switch and reset the start switch. If that does not work, replace the start switch.

Need to know about safety switch on washer lid

First, this machine has an electronic motor. Check to see if belt is broken. If not then unplug for 2 minutes, plug back in and open and close lid 7 times slowly. This will reset motor. A common problem with this machine. I dont think it is the magnetic lid switch.

Washing machine will not spin

Check the lid switch first.. if that's ok..then you may have a broken drive belt or the load is too great for the waher to move it.. Do you hear the motor spinning but the drum isn't rotating? Or is it just not doing anything during the spin cycle? Hope that helps..
