My mirror contacts a kind of foam substance on the upswing. It got sticky a while back and I had the same problem as you. I dampened a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol (91%) and rolled it back and forth many times over the foam. Let it dry and my mirror doesn't stick any more. Might work for you.

Unless you have experience repairing cameras, this is not a DIY fix. Take your camera to a reputable camera shop and have a trained professional look at it.

I am unable to view through the viewfinder. I have taken out the film, and I can even fire the shutter, and the view finder is still black. I removed the lens and the issue is still there. Any help would...

is the mirror stuck in the up position? if so the rubber bumpers have become sticky. try to ( gently ) pull the mirror down it should fall freely, then clean the mirror with alcohol. you may have to remove the foam rubber bumper to prevent the mirror from sticking again. the mirror mechanism will work without the bumper just fine.

Minolta 35mm X-370 stuck shutter

You are probably on the right track with the batteries. Stick some fresh ones in and the shutter should release. Your may need to use the advance lever to re-**** the shutter and drop the mirror down. You could also try removing the lens and manually pushing the mirror down to see if it stays in the down position.

Mirror is stuck in "up" position and film will not advance

Normally, stuck mirror is due to weak batteries with a elcetromagnetic shutter like the Ricoh. Try with brand new silver oxides and see if it helps!

The 'lock' is a ring gear that closes a ferrul against the draw tube to restrict its motion. It is not intended to be a hard lock. Try the Meade Advanced Users Group for further tips.

Film Advance Will Not move

Hi,powerpe. The mirror release rod can be located in the bottom of the body once the plate has been removed.(there are three screws on the old k1000's) There is a gear train on the left side when viewed turned over. The mirror cockong rod is towards the rear and a little right of the main shaft. You might need to move a little silver pawl with a pin or micro driver then you can push the mirror **** in to release the reflex mirror.the mirror cocking rod is about 1/8" dia.Hope this helps

Film advance lever

Yes this is fairly common with K 1000 and the Spotmatics : although the shutter is cocked and hence you cannot advance film you cannot release shutter because mirror box is not cocked. Remedy : remove bottom cover and locate mirror box lever which protrudes slightely and is movable up and down and is spring loaded. Move upwards until it licks in position ( moving up against spring tension ). Now release the shutter and camera should let you advance the film .
